Glenview History Center Welcome to the Glenview History Center's page! The Farmhouse museum is open Sunday afternoons from 1:00-4:00 in the summer or by appointment.

The Glenview History Center is a not-for-profit volunteer organization that preserves the cultural heritage of Glenview and its people. The Center maintains two facilities: the 1864 Farmhouse Museum and the modern Hibbard Library, a replica of the Victorian coach house. The museum displays furniture, clothing, pictures, and other memorabilia from the Civil War period to World War II. Please call 8

This year we’re ordering up some “Memories on the Menu” for Throwback Thursday. Do you remember La Pasta-Ria Ristorante? Located at 3711 Central Road, it was originally owned and operated by Banquets by Brigante. Sam Gray became executive chef in 1981, then a partner, then an owner. He launched a catering division, which became the main focus when the Glenview location closed in 2001.

This year we’re ordering up some “Memories on the Menu” for Throwback Thursday. Do you remember Better Times? It was one of a series of restaurants that occupied 3222 Glenview Road in the 1980s, starting with Cassano's, Patrick O'Ryan, Better Times and then Spanos. After that, the site was occupied by two hardware stores, a video store, a martial arts studio and today is a furniture store.

This year we’re ordering up some “Memories on the Menu” for Throwback Thursday. Do you remember Dog 'n Suds? Built in 1961 at 222 Waukegan Road it was torn down in 1972 and rebuilt as a 3-store structure that included Norden Crafts. Today it's the location of the Chicago Lighthouse Huber Vision Rehabilitation Center.

This year we’re ordering up some “Memories on the Menu” for Throwback Thursday. Do you remember Joe & Giuseppe Italian Chop House? Located at 1615 Milwaukee Avenue in 1989, one reviewer called it, "un-trendy Italian cooking that existed long before anyone ever heard of sea bass-stuffed black ravioli." The restaurant moved to Arlington Heights in 2000, replaced briefly by Cy's Steak and Seafood. Today, the site is a Korean restaurant.

This year we’re ordering up some “Memories on the Menu” for Throwback Thursday. Before Burger King took residence at 1834 Waukegan Road in 1967, the site was occupied first by Hugo for Hamburgers, whose proprietor, Thomas Nischan, was issued a gambling tax stamp in 1952. Then came the short-lived Cottonwood Cafe, which closed in 1966. The village annexed the parcel in 1973.

This year we’re ordering up some “Memories on the Menu” for Throwback Thursday. Do you remember Hearth Fare Restaurant? Begun as Nelli's Tavern at 1918 Waukegan Road in 1953, it was turned into a restaurant by Frank and Mary Hutchins known for its open hearth charcoal broiling and cocktails. The property was redeveloped for The Coat Rack in 1983 and is now a strip center.

This year we’re ordering up some “Memories on the Menu” for Throwback Thursday. Do you remember all the hot dog joints at 2841 Pfingsten Road? First, Irving Greensphan opened a franchise of his Irving's for Red Hot Lovers in the new Glenbrook Market Place in 1991. It became U Dawg U in 1997, then Dear Franks (photo) in 2004. Today it's a Mexican restaurant.
