The governor says there's a budget deal. The Assembly and Senate Democrats say there isn't. There shouldn't be this much dysfunction in our budget process, much less amongst the three primary negotiators. The state budget is six weeks late. Let's get this done.

So, there may or may not be a budget agreement. Governor Hochul says there is, while the Assembly says the opposite. Regardless, here are some facts.
Fact 1) When this budget finally comes to fruition, it will be the latest budget of my tenure in the Legislature.
Fact 2) By the time these bills are voted on, the public and lawmakers will not have had adequate time to learn what's in them. Fact 3) These closed-door, secret negotiations and conflicting messages are a hallmark of one-party control of state government and a disservice to all New Yorkers.

This afternoon I led a press conference about WilmerHale, the law firm Governor Hochul gave $9.3 million to investigate and issue a report on safety conditions inside correctional facilities. 14 months later, that report still hasn’t been issued and no timeline has been given as to when it will be released. It’s yet another sign of the Governor’s unwillingness to seriously address the concerns of our COs and civilian staff.

This week is National Correction Officers Week and frankly, our COs deserve better than the treatment they’re receiving from the Governor and legislative Democrats. I sponsor and fought to bring to the floor several bills to directly address prison safety. These are simple, straightforward bills that come as a direct result of my meetings with COs. Governor Hochul, what are you waiting for?

Today I presented two bills that would address prison safety: a repeal of HALT and a measure to make legal mail digital. These measures are crucial in stopping the spate of violence and contraband, and Senate Democrats blocked them both. It’s shameful.

Today is one of my favorite days in Albany: Adirondack Day! It's a great way to showcase our region, its beauty and the wealth of opportunities it offers to all. I hope you enjoy this brief video we filmed today about it!

The only thing Democrat lawmakers can agree on so far in this very late, unfinished budget: raise taxes and expand protections for illegal immigrants. Instead of doubling down on bad policies, they should be focusing on the outrageous energy costs and high cost of living in our state.

It was great to celebrate the Bolton High School Boys Varsity Basketball Team on its Class D State Championship victory in Albany this week. I appreciated having the chance to personally congratulate them and introduce this resolution in their honor to commemorate their impressive feat.

It’s National Crime Victims’ Rights Week. I want to take a moment to acknowledge crime victims, their loved ones and the men and women who assist, serve and protect. As Senator, I’ll always put the need for justice for crime victims and their communities first.
