The American Legion Post 4 in Sewickley, PA has reached a major milestone in its history in celebrating 100 years of existence. Attached is our actual Charter which was created on August 1, 1920! As commander of the Post, I am proud of our members who continue to support the veterans of of our community. We plan on having a formal celebration of this achievement of 100 years of existence in the near future!

Thank You to our current and past members for supporting our veterans for 100 years!

Memorial Day 2020 even though it is cancelled, we were able to place hundreds of American Flags on the graves of Sewickley Area Veterans at the Sewickley Cemetery and St James Cemetery last Saturday. Great honor and thanks to the great turnout of over 60 people to help place the flags!

I came across a news wire where the Navy Seal who shot Bin Laden stated "Don't wish me a Happy Memorial Day". I agree with him wholeheartedly as this day is a day of remembrance for those who gave up their own lives to protect the lives and freedom of us all!

Our whole weekend of Memorial Day activities in Sewickley, PA was based and will always be based on the remembrance of fallen veterans. From our Burn Pit Ceremony on Friday evening through the Coast Guard Ceremony on Saturday and the Church Service on Sunday at the Sewickley Methodist Church and finally the Memorial Day activities. While our Memorial Day activities included the Parade, the most solemn activities included the excellent words from our Keynote Speaker Jan Lewis (USAF) along with the Military ceremony at the Sewickley Cemetery Veterans Monument which included the laying of wreaths for each of the 11 major wars and the reading of the names of the 54 deceased veterans from the Sewickley area for the year 2018 and the playing of Taps three times.

This is the remembrance each year that our group on the Sewickley Memorial Day Committee owes to the fallen veterans who served and gave up the lives for our freedom. While these events were great....they are not Happy ones but ones of reflection and remembrance!!
