DCHS Play! “The Lightning Thief” is a story of the Demigod children of the Greek Gods trying to keep their parents from destroying the world. Percy Jackson, a boy who can't seem to stay enrolled in any school for long, is yet again facing expulsion. He finds out some surprising things about his best friend's and his favorite teacher's true identities, meets new friends, and ends up going on an epic quest to try and fix what someone else broke. This show has great music, humor, and fun for the whole family! November 6th, 7th and 8th.

🧪✨ Biomolecules: Tested & Revealed!
Science got messy (and fun!) in Mr. Pagawisan’s Sophomore Biology Class! Our young scientists rolled up their sleeves for a Biomolecules Testing Lab 🔬💡. Using Benedict’s, Sudan IV, Lugol’s, Biuret solutions, and even the classic brown paper test, they checked everyday items for sugars, proteins, and lipids.

The test subjects? 👀
💧 Water
🥛 Milk
🥤 Zero-sugar soda
🌽 Corn Syrup
🐖An “unknown” solution (spoiler: lard!)
🛢️ And of course, vegetable oil

From color changes to paper stains, the results showed just how much hidden science is in the foods and drinks around us. Students didn’t just learn the theory—they saw biology in action!

Mr. Pagawisan’s Advanced Biology class recently explored how starch content changes during banana ripening! 🍃🍌🍯

Students prepared two banana solutions — ripe and overripe bananas — by mixing each with water and iodine solution. They then created microscope slides from each solution to observe the plastids (starch granules) present in the banana cells. 🧪💡

Using their microscopes, students were able to compare the amount of starch granules among the different stages of ripeness — seeing firsthand how starch levels decrease as bananas ripen. 📉 In the absence of a green banana solution, the students did instead a pepper solution just to compare how the plastids of banana and pepper differ. Banana's plastids are used to store starch while pepper's plastids are used to manufacture and store carotenoid, a pigment.

It was a fun, hands-on way to connect theory with real biological processes! 👩‍🔬👨‍🔬
