In partnership with GUSD, Black in Glendale hosted the second annual Bridges to Becoming celebration, honoring Black and African American seniors across the District. 🎓✨

Students heard inspiring remarks from Superintendent Dr. Watson, Black in Glendale co-founder Tasha Jenkins, Board of Education President Ingrid Gunnell, and keynote speaker Dr. Patricia Brent-Sanco of Lynwood Unified School District.

Roosevelt Middle School recently celebrated the unveiling of a new student-designed mural and outdoor water bottle refilling station!

The mural was created by eighth-grade student Audrey Tan through a schoolwide art contest and brought to life with the help of parent volunteers. The new hydration station was funded through the City of Hope Healthy Living Grant, helping expand water access and promote healthy habits on campus.

Verdugo Woodlands Elementary was honored to welcome the Consul General of Japan earlier this week for a visit highlighting our award-winning Japanese Dual Language Immersion program. Students proudly greeted guests in Japanese and shared scenes from upcoming performances, showcasing the confidence, creativity, and language skills they are building through the program.

The Consul General was joined by actor and cultural ambassador Christopher Sean, the voice of Ultraman in the Netflix series, who spent time meeting students and hearing about their school experiences. Needless to say, the students were thrilled!

Thank you to Verdugo Woodlands Principal Kristina Provost for hosting this meaningful visit alongside Superintendent Dr. Darneika Watson, Board of Education President Ingrid Gunnell, and other GUSD leaders. It was a joyful celebration of language, culture, and the incredible opportunities students experience every day in GUSD.
