Already September and there's a lot happening in Glendale!

A hot topic in Arizona is the water supply within our state, and I want to reassure you that the City of Glendale has been planning ahead for decades. From changes along the Colorado River to years of conservation work and ongoing infrastructure investments, Glendale holds a very diverse water portfolio, designed to keep our community resilient for years to come. And as we look toward a secure future for our water, there’s even more happening across our city that you won’t want to miss.

We're turning up the sparkle! Glendale Glitters returns on Nov. 27 for its 33rd year, bringing the magic of the season back to the newly renovated Murphy Park. Vendor applications are open through Oct. 9, so there’s still time to be part of the celebration. If you’ve been considering joining this beloved tradition, submit your application and shine alongside our community.

Also, September is National Library Card Sign-Up Month? It’s the perfect time to discover everything Glendale’s libraries have waiting for you, from books and resources to programs and community connections. Sign up for your library card today and explore the full calendar of events happening across Glendale all month long.

And finally, a heads-up for Sahuaro District residents: several streets will see construction beginning Sept. 8 and continuing through the end of the year. Be sure to check out the details in this newsletter so you can stay informed and plan ahead.

Dear Sahuaro Residents,

On September 17th, we will be hosting a District Meeting at the Foothills Aquatic Recreational Center in the Bobcat room from 6-7pm. This event is free and open to the public.

During this meeting, staff will provide updates and answer questions about water supplies, Flock cameras, and other community topics. We encourage residents to attend and take part in these important discussions.

Meanwhile, the City Council continued reviewing plans for our annual Glendale Glitters celebration. Staff are finalizing key details, including restroom placement, evaluating safe road closure options in high‑traffic areas, and determining the best location for the Christmas tree. Conversations about the long‑term vision for the event will continue in upcoming council meetings.

Additionally, Project Eagle is the updated proposal for the former Project Baccara data center and natural gas power plant, moved forward during Tuesday’s council workshop. The project, proposed on a 160‑acre site north of Olive Avenue and west of Litchfield Road, already holds county approval and appears likely to advance toward annexation. Councilmembers discussed potential benefits, impacts, and next steps, with more opportunities for public input to come as the rezoning process begins.

Dear Sahuaro Residents,

As we continue through another classic Glendale summer, our neighborhood is facing the familiar mix of extreme heat, unpredictable monsoon storms, and sudden high‑wind events that can change conditions in a matter of minutes. These seasonal challenges impact our daily lives from our daily routines to the safety of our surroundings. They remind us how important it is to stay connected, prepared, and proactive as a community.

Monsoon season adds another layer of unpredictability, with intense rain, lightning, and damaging winds appearing quickly and sometimes with little warning. We kindly ask all residents to stay vigilant. If you notice fallen trees, broken branches, leaning signs or poles, or any storm‑related concerns, please report them right away through the Glendale One service portal. Quick reporting helps our city crews address hazards faster, keeping our streets, parks, and shared spaces safe for everyone.

Beyond safety, summer is the perfect time to focus on water conservation. Especially as our desert landscapes work hard to withstand the heat. Using water wisely preserves resources and ensures that Glendale continues to thrive even during the driest months. Here are some helpful water‑smart tips to keep in mind:

* Water deeply but infrequently. Deep watering encourages stronger, more resilient root systems.
* Walk your property regularly and look for broken sprinkler heads or leaks that may be wasting water.
* Adjust irrigation seasonally. Don’t rely on one year-round schedule.
* Replace failing plants with drought‑tolerant options.
* Water early in the morning to reduce evaporation.

By staying alert, reporting issues promptly and practicing thoughtful water conservation, we strengthen both our neighborhood’s safety and its long‑term sustainability.

Dear Sahuaro Residents,

There is a great deal of momentum across our city, and this week offered an exciting glimpse of what lies ahead. We welcomed the community into our new Council Chambers for the first Council meeting in the new building. This is a meaningful milestone for the City of Glendale, and it was met with much enthusiasm from Councilmembers and residents. The community participation was a humbling reminder that the work of local government is at its best when residents are informed, engaged, and part of the conversation.

That same spirit of progress is reflected in several important initiatives now underway. From investing in our library and recreational facilities to improving essential infrastructure and exploring new ways to promote safer roads, the City of Glendale continues to focus on projects that strengthen our community today while preparing for tomorrow.

During our council meeting we took a closer look at these efforts. From the library’s upcoming infrastructure improvements and possible temporary relocation plan to the proposed Safe Driver Pledge Initiative. We also highlighted significant investments in our water system, demonstrating our continued commitment to reliable services, safe public spaces, accessibility, and quality of life.

Each of these projects represents more than an investment in buildings, infrastructure, or programs. They are investments in the people and neighborhoods that make our city a vibrant place to live.

Whether it's neighborhood safety, parks and recreation, street maintenance, traffic, public services, or planning for future projects, every completed survey helps guide informed decisions that reflect the priorities of Glendale residents. I’d like to remind everyone that 𝐬𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐨𝐥𝐬 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐛𝐚𝐜𝐤 𝐢𝐧 𝐬𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐚𝐜𝐫𝐨𝐬𝐬 𝐆𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐥𝐞. Please allow yourself a little extra time in the morning by preparing the night before when possible and leaving home a few minutes early. Most importantly, stay alert on the roads by watching for school buses making frequent stops, slowing down in school zones, and being mindful of crosswalks and the dedicated crossing guards who help keep our students safe.

Also, we're continuing to experience extreme summer weather. With very hot temperatures, heat advisories, and periods of poor air quality, it's important to stay hydrated, limit prolonged outdoor activity, and plan if you'll be spending time outside during the hottest parts of the day.

Finally, I encourage you to stay engaged with your local government. The 𝐆𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐥𝐞 𝐂𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐂𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐜𝐢𝐥 𝐰𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐛𝐞 𝐦𝐞𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐰𝐞𝐞𝐤, and your participation is always appreciated. One of the most rewarding parts of serving on the Council is hearing directly from residents, and community input remains an essential part of the decision-making process.

August is here, and Glendale is buzzing with activity!

Students are heading back to school, there are exciting community events, important City updates and excellent opportunities available to get involved, there's something happening for everyone!

I encourage you to join us for our upcoming City Council meeting in our brand-new Council Chambers at City Hall and stay connected with the decisions shaping our community.

Take a few minutes to share your thoughts through the City's resident survey, your feedback helps guide the future of Glendale.

Arizona temperatures are still going strong, so don't forget the essentials. Parent's, please apply sunscreen before your kids head out the door and be sure they pack plenty of water to stay hydrated throughout the school day.

Summer is in full swing, bringing opportunities to celebrate our community, enjoy our parks, and spend time with family and friends. As we enjoy everything Glendale has to offer this season, I encourage everyone to stay connected, stay active, and make safety a priority.

As we move through the hottest months of the year, I encourage everyone to keep safety at the forefront. Simple precautions can prevent tragedies and help protect not only you and your family, but also the first responders who answer emergency calls every day.

Beat the Heat
When temperatures climb above 100 degrees, the risks are serious. Please avoid desert hiking and other strenuous outdoor activities during extreme heat. Stay hydrated, limit outdoor activity to the cooler parts of the day, and never underestimate Arizona's summer temperatures.

Stay Safe Around Water
Water safety remains a critical concern across our region. So far in 2026, Maricopa and Pinal counties have recorded 32 water-related deaths, with 29 involving adults. Water is powerful and unpredictable, and overconfidence can have tragic consequences.

Whether you're spending time at a pool, lake, or river, wear a life jacket when appropriate, supervise children closely, never swim alone, and avoid overestimating your swimming ability. Together, we can make this a summer filled with community, recreation, and safe memories.

July is National Park and Recreation Month, and Glendale is celebrating with free, family‑friendly events open to everyone. This month offers hands-on activities, opportunities to meet park staff, and fun ways to explore Glendale’s recreation centers. Highlights include:

Art at the Park: July 11, 10 a.m.– 12pm
Create heartfelt, family-themed magnets inside the cool, historic fruit-packing shed at Sahuaro Ranch Park. All materials provided.

Family Play Date: July 24, 5:30–7:30 p.m.
Enjoy fitness equipment, sports courts, rock-climbing walls, games, crafts, pizza and prize giveaways at four locations:

Foothills Recreation & Aquatics Center
Glendale Community Center
Rose Lane Community Center
O’Neil Recreation Center.

Thank a Ranger Day: July 25, 6–8 p.m.
Meet Glendale’s park rangers, learn how they care for our outdoor spaces, play games, collect giveaways, and enter prize drawings at Heroes Regional and Sahuaro Ranch parks.

Glendale Adult Center Open House:
July 30, 8 a.m.–5 p.m.
Adults 18+ are invited to explore programs, equipment, classes and activities at this vibrant community hub.

Glendale Adopts Resident-Focused Budget for FY 2026–27
The Glendale City Council unanimously approved a $1.41 billion fiscal year budget that reinforces the city’s commitment to public safety, infrastructure, and high-quality services while maintaining fiscal responsibility. Key investments include:

Public Safety Enhancements:
Hiring eight new police officers funded through federal COPS grants, continued development of the city’s crime lab, and maintaining the property tax rate for the eleventh consecutive year.

Fire Department Improvements:
Relocating Fire Station 154, planning a new fire station near Glendale Regional Airport, and expanding occupational cancer screening funding to support firefighter health.

Transportation Upgrades:
Roadway reconstruction, added turn lanes, improved intersections, expanded street lighting, and new bus pull-outs to improve connectivity and safety.

Workforce Support:
Adding staff in Parks and Recreation, Water Services, court security, ADA programming and innovation project teams.

This budget reflects Glendale’s focus on strengthening public services, modernizing infrastructure, and supporting a thriving community.

Celebrate the Fourth of July in Glendale!

City of Glendale offices will be closed Friday July 3, in observance of the Fourth of July holiday, many city services and recreational amenities will remain available so residents and visitors can enjoy the holiday weekend.

Trash & Recycling
There are no changes to residential garbage, recycling, or bulk trash collection. The Glendale Municipal Landfill will be open July 3 but will be closed July 4.

Getting Around
Valley Metro buses will operate on a regular schedule on July 4. Valley Metro Express and RAPID routes will not run July 3–5. GUS Bus Route 1 and ADA transit service will operate as usual, while MicroTransit (Dial-A-Ride) will be available from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. with advance reservations. To plan your route, visit Valley Metro or call 602-253-5000.

Cool Off & Celebrate
Enjoy recreational swimming at the Foothills Recreation & Aquatics Center (FRAC) and Rose Lane Aquatics Center from 1 to 5 p.m. on July 3 and 4, or visit one of Glendale's splash pads, open daily from noon to 7 p.m.

The city has splash pads at the following sites:
Greenway Granada Park: 73rd Ave and Greenway Road
Heroes Regional Park: 83rd Ave and Bethany Home Road
O'Neil Park: 64th and Missouri Ave
Sunset Palms Park: 54th and Sweetwater Ave
Sycamore Grove: 86th Lane & Emil Rovey Parkway

Picnic in the Park
Glendale’s REC on Wheels program will bring yard games and outdoor fun to the city’s red, white and blue celebration from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on July 4 at Murphy Park. The free event features a foam zone, dance parties, and crafts. Food trucks will have items available for purchase, and free public parking is available in nearby parking garages.

Closures
All Glendale Public Library branches and most recreation centers will be closed July 3 and 4. Regular hours will resume July 5. The Glendale Regional Airport administrative office will be closed July 3, while the airport remains open. The Glendale Convention & Visitors Bureau will also be closed July 3 and 4.
