North Shore Health Department

North Shore Health Department Provides public health services for the 7 Wisconsin communities of Bayside, Brown Deer, Fox Point, Glendale, River Hills, Shorewood and Whitefish Bay.

https://linktr.ee/nshealthdept The NSHD is guided in its work by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s 10 Essential Public Health Services. These services codify the responsibilities of public health agencies in the United States to promote and protect the health of the public to prevent disease and injury. All of the NSHD’s program
and service areas incorporate the essential public health services. The NSHD has two offices, in Brown Deer and Shorewood, and residents can utilize services at either location, as well as at routinely scheduled community-based clinics. The NSHD is advised by a Board of Health with representatives from each of the seven
communities in the North Shore, as well as a medical advisor who is on staff. The Village of Brown Deer serves as the fiscal and administrative agent for the NSHD.

Routine mammograms recommended starting at age 40 to detect tumors. If you notice any changes or feel a lump, don't panic, most lumps are not cancerous. Reach our to your doctor to plan an exam.

If you are 25 years old or older, consider discussing family history or genetic factors with your doctor to know your risk.

Without proper food preparation, cooking, or storing, there is a possibility of foodborne illness. It’s important to know about food safety!

Steps of Safe Food Preparation
1. Clean: Wash your hands, utensils, and surfaces often when you cook.
2. Separate: Raw meat, poultry, seafood, and eggs can spread germs. Separate them from cooked food and fresh produce when cooking.
3. Cook: Use a food thermometer to make sure foods are cooked to an internal temperature that kills germs. *Temperatures vary by type of meat. Follow USDA guidelines*
4. Cool: Refrigerate perishable foods and leftovers within two hours. Chill within one hour if it’s above 90°F.

Use the “Feeling Sick? Report it Quick!” tool to report suspected illnesses from food or water.
