Today I attended the APISBMA (Asian Pacific Islander School Board Member Association) Spring Mixer and connected with many AAPI school board members across California including San Marino USD Board President Shelley Ryan (who taught at my HS when I was a student there) and one of my new heroes, Orange USD Board Member

Looking forward to continuing to build these important relationships and increasing AAPI and educator representation at the school board level!

Last night, I was sworn in as the Glendale Unified School District Board Member for Area A. This event was the culmination of a grassroots community effort to ensure that our schools and city continue to be a safe and inclusive place for our children, families, and educators. Thank you to everyone who attended the meeting to celebrate with us. Super excited for the work we will do as we move forward!

Honored to speak at Fremont Elementary School’s Mosaic Mural Unveiling Ceremony. Mosaics are one of my favorite art forms - the idea of individual pieces coming together to form a collective product that resonates with me. This project will also help fund the purchase of library books and other resources for students. Thank you Fremont PTA for this amazing gift to the school! 🐻📚🎨

Although the results were clear on Election Night, it is now official. Friends, we did it! Thank you to the educators, parents, and other community members for keeping our schools and community safe and welcoming for all. My first thought when I heard that Shant Kevorkian filed papers to run for Glendale School Board in Area A was about how this would impact the race. For a brief moment, I thought about asking him to reconsider given the stakes in this election. But those feelings quickly went away. As someone who supports democracy and the democratic process, how could I discourage a fellow community member (and a recent GUSD graduate) from wanting to step up and serve our schools?

We got in touch with each other and agreed to meet. My younger daughter Chloe and I met with Shant at a Starbucks and chatted for a few hours. Immediately, I was impressed by his intellect, drive, and values. We pledged to each other that we would both run a positive campaign. After we parted ways, Chloe said to me, “Shant is nice.” I nodded in agreement.

This began our unusual but wonderful friendship - two people separated by over twenty years in age running for the same school board position texting each other regularly about the election and life in general and bonding over our shared experiences on the campaign trail.

Over the next few months, my campaign team and the rest of my family had a chance to meet Shant at various events. “Shant is a great guy,” they all said.

I invited Shant to my house on Election Night. He said he had his own event going on but would stop by if he could. Shortly after the initial results were posted, he came over. Everyone, including my family, was delighted to see him - a testament to the impression he has made on our entire community.

Getting to know Shant has been one of the best things about this campaign. I look forward to our future conversations on how to make our schools safer and better for our children and educators. Most of all, I look forward to what tomorrow brings for Shant. 👊

It is important to count every single vote in an election, even if it means we have to wait a little while to find out the results. After seven consecutive days in which our lead has only increased, I am confident that our campaign for Glendale School Board in Area A has prevailed and that we have won this election. This is a victory for all our children, families, and educators.

Furthermore, our friend Neda Farid has now solidified her lead in the race for the Glendale School Board seat for Area E!

Make no mistake. This win happened because of you. Every donation allowed us to purchase yard signs and mailers to distribute to our supporters. Every yard sign and mailer allowed neighbors to see that this was the candidacy endorsed by our educators. One by one, every conversation you had and every house you visited earned us the votes we needed to win.

Because of certain events in the past year, people all over the country have been paying close attention to these school board races. You have shown them that when our children, parents, educators, and other community members work together, we CAN and WILL successfully keep our schools and community safe and nurturing for all.

For everything you have done and continue to do, thank you.

Thank you to the many friends who spent Election Night with us yesterday! ❤️🗳️🙂
