Glencoe holds a special recognition among Alabama communities as a "City of Patriotism" designated by Governor Bob Riley in September 2003. The state legislature gave this title in expressing their immense gratitude for the city's outstanding display of patriotism. Each year on Memorial Day, Independence Day, and Veteran's Day, the City of Glencoe and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Organization recognize and honor 228 servicemen and women from Glencoe who served in the Military and fought in foreign wars such as WWI, WWII, Vietnam, and Korea. The ceremony is performed by displaying 228 flags with crosses bearing the names of those men and women who defended and preserved our nation before their passing. Residential and business growth is on the rise in Glencoe with new subdivisions with new businesses and a wide range of housing opportunities. We offer our residents a safe, friendly community in which they can work, live, and play. Please visit Glencoe, a "City Of Patriotism" it's a good place to live.

The Glencoe Dog Park recently hosted an Italian Greyhound Litter Party with visitors traveling from South Carolina, Georgia, Fort Payne, Chelsea, and Glencoe.

One of Alabama’s most delicious old-school burger joints, the Big Chief Drive-In in Glencoe has been feeding hungry locals since 1963. Sitting just off U.S. Highway 431, this small roadside spot still feels like the kind of place that survived because people kept coming back, not because it ever tried to be fancy. The building is small, the counter has a throwback feel, and the menu still leans into the simple comfort food that made drive-ins a big part of American roadside culture.

Burgers, fries, shakes, flurries, and banana splits are the classics here, while longtime fans also talk up the bacon cheeseburgers, fried oysters, and house-made ranch. Food is cooked after you order, portions are generous, and the prices have stayed friendly enough to keep it feeling local. Inside seating is limited, but outdoor tables give it that easy small-town stop feel. In a world full of chain restaurants, Big Chief still feels like Glencoe’s own piece of 1960s roadside history.

PUBLIC HEARING NOTICE

The City of Glencoe is applying to the Alabama Department of Transportation for a federal capital funding award under Section 5310 of the Federal Transit Act. This funding is for capital assistance to help meet the transportation needs of seniors and individuals with disabilities in Etowah County.

A public hearing will be held on June 14th, 2026 at 12:00 pm in the Council Room at Glencoe City Hall at 201 Chastain Blvd W, Glencoe, AL 35905 for public comments.
