Join us this coming Tuesday, September 8, at 7:00pm in the library’s Johnson Room for “A Brief (and Surprisingly Interesting) History of Brick Architecture in Chicago.” Journey across Chicago and architecture history with architecture photographer and historian Will Quam and learn how fashion in brick changes just as much as fashion in clothing. Quam’s book “Fire and Clay: How Bricks Reveal the Hidden History of Chicago” will be available for purchase and signing courtesy of The Book Stall.

Thank you, Glencoe, for all your support of our Lemon-Aid Stand Day fundraiser! This year nine families of volunteers and Pack 28 Glencoe Cub Scouts helped the Glencoe Public Library Foundation raise over $2,000 for the library’s upcoming renovation. We were also delighted to welcome avid library supporter State Representative Tracy Katz Muhl to the event.

After two decades of service to the library and nearly 13 years at the helm of adult programming, the library would like to recognize and sincerely thank Grace, Head of Programs & Communications, for her commitment and dedication to our community. As both an individual and a professional, Grace brought a unique style to the library, and she will be missed by staff and patrons alike. We wish her all the best in her retirement!

Come find the library around town this weekend as we wrap up a great summer! Library staffers will be at Glencoe Al Fresco tonight between 5-7pm at Writers Theatre with a fun kids' activity and the book bike, and the Glencoe Public Library Foundation has organized their second annual Lemon-Aid Stand Day on Saturday from 10am-2pm. Six stands selling drinks and t-shirts will be stationed throughout Glencoe, and all proceeds will benefit the library's upcoming renovation!

Join us on Tuesday, August 25, at 1:00pm for a virtual conversation about Black history and botanical mastery with award-winning plant biologist Beronda L. Montgomery. Montgomery's book, "When Trees Testify: Science, Wisdom, History, and America’s Black Botanical Legacy," explores the ways seven trees, as well as the cotton shrub, are intertwined with Black history and culture. These trees testify not only to the complexity of the Black American narrative but also to a heritage of Black botanical expertise that, like Native American traditions, predates the United States entirely.
