A Neighborhood Council's purpose is to promote Stakeholder participation in local issues affecting their community, and to make government more responsive to local needs. To achieve this goal, the voters passed Charter reforms in 1999, creating the Citywide System of Neighborhood Councils through the Deparment of Neighborhood Empowerment. The Greater Valley Glen Council (GVGC) was formed in 1996 a

nd was certified as the 42nd Neighborhood Council on August 27, 2002. The GVGC consists of committed commuity stakeholders who plan and implement community projects to foster improvement. The GVGC shall seek to enhance the economic vitality and quality of life of the community, to preserve and enhance its character and prevent its deterioration. A Stakeholder is anyone who lives, works or owns property within the Council boundaries. In addition, a Stakeholder is anyone who participates in educational institutions, religious institutions and community organizations. As a Stakeholder you can participate by:

* Attending meetings the first Monday of each month at Valley College, Cafeteria Conference Room, 5800 Fulton Avenue, Valley Glen.
* Be on our email list to be notified of important issues and meetings.
* Take a position on issues.
* Run for a seat on the Board of Directors.
* Vote for the Board of Directors.

In an effort to help the animals in LA City shelters find loving homes, The Paula Kent Meehan Pet Care Foundation is sponsoring the Big Dogs and Meow-Meows Adoption event from September 1-30, 2026 at all six LA Animal Services Centers. During the monthlong adoption event, adoption fees for dogs 40 lbs and over are $51 (does not include $20 dog license fee for LA City residents), and adoption fees for cats a year old and older are $12.50.

Dogs and cats adopted from LA Animal Services join their new families spayed or neutered, vaccinated, licensed, and microchipped, and adopters receive a VCA Healthy Start Certificate, which provides up to $250 of follow up veterinary care within the first 14 days of adoption. In addition, canine companions adopted from LA Animal Services are also eligible for free dog training classes at the Paws for Life K9 Rescue People & Pet Innovation Center in Mission Hills, CA. For over a hundred years, Armenian immigrants and their descendants have made critical contributions to the civic life of Los Angeles. The locations associated with their achievements should be recorded and celebrated.

Los Angeles City Planning’s Office of Historic Resources (OHR), in collaboration with Environmental Science Associates and the USC Dornsife Institute of Armenian Studies is holding its first community workshop in District 2 to collect information on locations of historic significance to the Armenian American community. If you have memories and insights to share, come participate in this community meeting.
