Tomorrow, 4/2/2026, the Texas Department of Emergency Management is coordinating a statewide drill to test local jurisdictions emergency alerting systems. Somervell County is currently transitioning to a new mass notification system called Everbridge (more information about this coming very soon). Because of this transition, and the logistical challenges it has created,Somervell County will not be participating in the statewide drill tomorrow. However, some of the counties around us will be participating and you may hear their warnings sirens. NOTE: In the event of a real emergency, during our transition period to Everbridge, FEMA will use their system to make emergency notifications to those in Somervell County, at our request. Additionally, Somervell County still maintains the ability to sound the emergency sirens.

The threat for grass fires increases significantly on Thursday due to dry, warm, and breezy conditions. A Red Flag Warning is now in effect for our northwestern counties where afternoon humidity will drop to around 15%. Expect wind gusts between 20-30 mph generally north of I-20, as well as humidity between 15-25% across much of the region tomorrow. Take extra care to eliminate any ignition sources over dry vegetation.
