stop by any Thursday at 7:30 to see what its about! The fire service in the United States has a rich tradition of volunteer fire departments dating back to the 1700's. In most small to mid-size towns today, volunteer departments continue to provide quality, cost effective fire protection services to the community. In fact 73% of all firefighters in the United States are volunteers. Since then we h

ave remained a strong volunteer organization. All members are volunteers...meaning that we work full time jobs in addition to the time we give to volunteer. Why do we do this? Some do it because someone else in our family was also a volunteer firefighter; others do it because we simply want to give back to the community and have an interest in firefighting.

This week, we had the opportunity to train with the Fair Lawn Fire Department.
On Monday night, our members joined them at their training center to work on hose stretches and primary searches. This afternoon, we were also able to bring some of our newer members to participate in a search-focused drill geared toward probationary and newer firefighters.
We greatly appreciate the Fair Lawn Fire Department for welcoming us and allowing us to drill alongside them. Training together helps strengthen our skills, teamwork, and mutual aid relationships.

Members of the Glen Rock Fire Department responded to multiple fire alarm activations throughout town, a multi-vehicle rollover on Route 208, and while still committed to one incident, were dispatched to a reported dumpster fire. On arrival, crews were met with smoke and flames and went right to work to contain and extinguish the fire.
Days like this are a reminder that no two days as a member of the GRFD are the same. From investigating alarms to handling serious motor vehicle accidents and fires, our members stay prepared for whatever comes next.
Proud to stand ready for the residents of Glen Rock.
Interested in being part of it? We are looking for dedicated individuals to join our department. We want you to join our team!

This Thursday evening, members of the GRFD took part in an elevator rescue drill taught by Chief Jennings. The department learned how to shut down an elevator, open the doors in an emergency, and rescue trapped occupants. Every other Thursday, the GRFD takes part in drills to hone their rescue and fire ground skills. Interested in joining? Come on down to the department any Thursday night at 7:30 to see what it’s all about. ie

AN IMPORTANT MESSAGE FROM THE GLEN ROCK VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENT
TO THE RESIDENTS OF GLEN ROCK
Every fire call in the borough — day or night — is answered by trained members of this incredible community.
We’re proud of our department, our training, and our long-standing tradition of neighbors protecting neighbors.
A common misconception is that people think they don’t have the time to volunteer. In reality, our members come from all walks of life and enthusiastically balance service with their everyday lives.
Our membership includes lawyers, government workers, contractors, corporate business professionals, students, teachers, retirees, mechanics, funeral directors — and many more, ages 16 and up.
Beyond responding to calls, being part of the department is incredibly fulfilling. We are a close-knit family that trains together, supports one another, and spends time together at department and community events throughout the year.
We’re always interested in meeting Glen Rock residents who want to give back, learn valuable skills, and be part of something bigger than themselves.
No prior experience required. Training is provided. This is an incredible opportunity to serve your community and experience a sense of fulfillment that’s hard to find anywhere else.
