🚒 GRANT COUNTY REHAB TEAM VOLUNTEERS NEEDED 🚒

HELP SUPPORT THE FIREFIGHTERS WHO PROTECT GRANT COUNTY

When firefighters battle a major structure fire, grass fire, or long-duration emergency, the work is physically exhausting. Heavy gear, intense heat, smoke exposure, dehydration, and fatigue can quickly take a toll — and that’s where the Firefighter Rehab Team comes in.

Grant County Emergency Management is currently seeking community volunteers interested in helping with Firefighter Rehabilitation (REHAB) as part of the Grant County Emergency Management Volunteer Auxilliary.

The Rehab Team responds to major incidents throughout Grant County to help firefighters and emergency responders safely rest, recover, rehydrate, and return to duty. These volunteers play a critical behind-the-scenes role that directly supports firefighter safety and operational effectiveness.

🔥 WHAT DOES THE REHAB TEAM DO?

Volunteers may assist with:
• Setting up rehab shelters, tents, tables, heaters, fans, and chairs
• Providing cold water, sports drinks, snacks, and meals during long incidents
• Helping firefighters cool down or warm up depending on weather conditions
• Supporting our firefighter carcinogen-reduction program by distributing towels and washcloths so firefighters can clean soot and contaminants from their skin
• Assisting EMS crews with non-medical support tasks
• Tracking firefighter rotation and accountability
• Refilling SCBA air bottles (for those comfortable and trained to do so)

🚨 WHO SHOULD JOIN?

This opportunity is ideal for people who:
• Want to support firefighters and first responders
• Enjoy helping during emergencies and community events
• Prefer a support/logistics role rather than direct emergency response
• Are dependable, and willing to learn
• Want to be part of a structured emergency management team serving Grant County

No firefighting experience is required. Training and equipment will be provided.

The Rehab Team is only one part of the broader Grant County Emergency Management Volunteer Auxiliary. Additional opportunities will also exist in areas such as:
• Disaster damage assessment
• Shelter and survivor support
• Emergency Operations Center support
• Logistics and supply operations
• Drone operations
• Communications support
• Vehicle and equipment maintenance

Today marks the start of National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week 2026. On behalf of the Grant County Sheriff’s Office, I want to extend my sincere appreciation to our public safety telecommunicators, at the Grant County Sheriff's Office and the Platteville Police Department, for their exceptional dedication, professionalism, and service.

In times of emergency, telecommunicators are often the first voice heard by those in crisis and the first point of contact with law enforcement or emergency services. Their ability to remain calm, gather critical information, and coordinate an effective response is essential to the safety and well-being of our community.

Our dispatchers provide critical information and ongoing support to emergency responders in Law Enforcement, Fire & EMS, and Emergency Management, while also serving the public with professionalism, compassion, and care. Their work is vital to ensuring timely communication, coordinated response, and public safety throughout Grant County.

We are grateful for the important role our telecommunicators perform each day in service to the citizens of Grant County. Please join me in thanking each of them. Their commitment, compassion, and professionalism do not go unnoticed.
