As hate incidents and religious tensions rise, everyone should feel safe attending services and practicing their faith. The budget establishes buffer zones around houses of worship and other religious gathering spaces to protect congregants while preserving the right to lawful and peaceful protest.

A special shout-out to the Long Island Hispanic Bar, along with Governor Kathy Hochul, New York State Office for New Americans, and Fundacion Hispanoamericana, Inc., for working together to coordinate this important event.

Today marks 82 years since the turning point in the Second World War. On that historic day, the largest amphibious invasion in the history of warfare took place as Allied forces stormed the northern coast of Nazi-occupied France. We honor all who participated in this, and all the battles fought in that terrible war in defense of democracy.

Today I joined my colleagues in the Assembly to pass "Kyra's Law" - named in memory of two-year-old Kyra Franchetti, who lost her life at the hands of her abusive father. After years of advocacy by her mother, this bill will help protect those most precious to us by directing that judicial decisions regarding custody and access to children promote the safety of children as a threshold matter.

Last night in the Assembly Chamber, I lent my support to a bill requiring signage to be placed alongside art stolen during the transatlantic slave period. This legislation is sensitive to the immense cultural and material loss resulting from this shameful chapter of world history.

Late last night, the Assembly passed legislation amending redistricting rules in the state constitution. I believe these changes create a more transparent and effective redistricting process that better serves voters, strengthens public trust and helps ensure fair representation for years to come.
