With the High Holy Days and a sad anniversary approaching it was an especially poignant morning at Manetto Hill Jewish Center as a Torah was rededicated in memory of the innocent lives taken in the October 7 attack. This particular scroll, perhaps a century in age, had already been dedicated in the name of a beloved congregant, but now will also honor and sanctify the memories of those lost on that terrible day. Am Yisrael Chai!

Great to see that news of the upgrades to the Roslyn High School sports complex is being amplified. I will continue to support public education in any way I can.

With the new school year upon us, it’s a whole new ballgame for student-athletes at Roslyn High School! Thanks in part to a $250,000 grant I secured, the Roslyn School District was able to significantly enhance the school’s sports complex with a brand-new multipurpose field for baseball, soccer, and marching band activities, new tennis courts, track and field areas, plus many infrastructure upgrades. After meeting with the district administrators back in 2024, my office fast-tracked the grant’s approval, enabling construction to get started right away. I am immensely proud to have made this state-of-the-art, well-utilized project a reality!

I was proud to secure funding to support the Holocaust Memorial and Tolerance Center of Nassau County. The work that is done here on a daily basis is essential to stemming the rising tide of antisemitism we are seeing not just here but globally. We must continue to fight hate through education.

It was also a privilege to join Alan Mindel, host of the Influential Origins podcast and a member of the HMTC Board of Directors, to discuss the disturbing rise in antisemitism and how my life’s journey influenced my passion to stand up to hatred and discrimination against not just Jews but anyone perceived as ‘the other.’

The Life Enrichment Center at Oyster Bay is always buzzing with activity. I always enjoy my visits there, but it was especially nice to announce a $125,000 grant for internal renovations, along with another $30,000 to support the center’s various wellness, socialization, and educational programs. Last week, I joined Executive Director Judy Palumbo and her incredible staff for the big announcement.

With inflation continuing to increase at an alarming rate, more families than ever are finding it difficult to make ends meet, let alone put together a holiday meal. Thanks to Met Council, bags of essentials will enable Jewish families to be able to celebrate the High Holy Days with dignity and joy. I was proud to join Sid Jacobson JCC Executive Director Michael Schlank and volunteers to lend a hand in assembling bags at this annual event that serves the community.
