25 Years Later, Glen Cove Remembers 🇺🇸
On Friday, our community gathered at Pratt Park to mark the 25th anniversary of September 11, 2001, and to honor the nearly 3,000 lives lost, the extraordinary courage of our first responders, and all those who have since lost their lives from illnesses related to their service at Ground Zero.
Here in Glen Cove, we continue to remember four members of our own community whose lives were taken that day:

Matthew T. McDermott
John F. Puckett
Joseph J. Zuccala
One of the most important parts of remembrance is ensuring that younger generations understand the significance of September 11. Officer Felix Cruz spoke directly to our students about what happened that day and why, even 25 years later, we must continue to remember, honor and teach.
Glen Cove Poet Laureate Victoria Crosby once again shared her beautiful and heartfelt poem, which has become a meaningful part of our annual remembrance.
A special thank you to Susan Tripp in the Mayor’s Office for her work in helping organize this meaningful ceremony, and to our Glen Cove Emergency Services Color Guard, Glen Cove Police Department, Glen Cove Volunteer Fire Department, EMS, Auxiliary Police, Harbor Patrol, our veterans, clergy, musicians and everyone who participated in making this remembrance so special.
Thank you as well to the families, residents and students who joined us. Your presence helps ensure that the lives we lost and the events of that day are never forgotten.
Twenty-five years later, Glen Cove remembers. We honor those we lost, those who answered the call and those who continue to carry the impact of that day.
We will never forget.
