Committed to Excellence in action: Community safety is not an option, but rather a necessity. The officers of the Glen Cove Police Department embody this sentiment every tour of duty through their hard work and dedication toward achieving the goal of making Glen Cove the safest place to live, work and raise a family. We are proud of our work and of our community that we call home. Thank you for all of your support.

Glen Cove has been ranked the #3 safest city in New York.

This recognition reflects a continued commitment to public safety—through the dedication of our Glen Cove Police Department, the hard work of our officers, and the City’s ongoing efforts to support the training, staffing, and resources needed to do the job effectively.

Keeping Glen Cove safe requires both strong policing and responsible investment, and this ranking shows the impact of that work.

We’re proud of this recognition and the community that makes it possible.

Last night, the City of Glen Cove proudly recognized the promotion of two outstanding members of the Glen Cove Police Department.

Sergeant Peter Michaleas and Lieutenant Salvatore “Sonny” Bifone have each dedicated years of service to our community, building careers rooted in leadership, training, and public safety.

Sergeant Michaleas has served since 2013, becoming a Field Training Officer, fi****ms instructor, and educator in our schools, while earning numerous commendations and lifesaving awards.

Lieutenant “Sonny” Bifone brings over two decades of law enforcement experience, with leadership roles in training, youth outreach, and specialized units, along with an extensive list of awards and certifications.

With Mayor Pam and the City Council in attendance, along with Chief Ortiz and Deputy Chief DiMaggio, it was a well-deserved moment of recognition for two individuals who continue to lead by example.

Congratulations to both on this next chapter in their careers.
