Before we close out the school year, we want to take a moment to celebrate an incredible Field Day! ☀️🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️

Students enjoyed a day filled with games, friendly competition, teamwork, and plenty of school spirit. Days like today remind us that some of the best memories made in middle school happen outside the classroom.

A special thank you to our Physical Education Department for once again organizing and running such a fantastic event. Their hard work, planning, and enthusiasm made the day a tremendous success for our students.

We would also like to thank the Finley Middle School PTA for helping make this event possible and the Glen Cove Education Foundation for their generous contribution and continued support of our students and school community.

What a day for our 6th graders! ☀️🗽

Students set sail around Manhattan, taking in some of New York City’s most iconic sights including the Statue of Liberty, the Manhattan skyline, and the harbor that has welcomed generations to our city. From the excitement on deck to the smiles shared with friends, it was a day filled with memories our students will not soon forget.

Trips like these are about more than just sightseeing. They give students the opportunity to learn, explore, laugh together, and experience the world beyond the classroom. Judging by the energy and excitement onboard today, this trip was definitely one for the books.

A huge thank you to our chaperones and crew members who helped make the day safe, smooth, and memorable for all of our students.

Big Moves at the 2026 Youth Business Summit! 🌟

On April 23, our 8th-grade Virtual Enterprise class made history!

Supported by Ms. Tanner and Mr. McKinnon, our students headed to the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center to compete in an international arena featuring 160 schools from 18 states and 6 countries. 🌎

In years past, we attended the summit to learn. This year? We took the stage! This marked the very first time our middle school competed as entrepreneurs on an international level.

Our student-founded LLC, Skin Ink, was the star of the show. The team promoted their line of skin-safe products designed for creative self-expression. Students connected with peers and pros from around the globe. They closed nearly 90 sales during the exhibition!

A huge shoutout to our Business Plan Presentation team: Sophia, Jefferson, Joseph, Alexia, and Zoe. 👏🏼
They went head-to-head with 14 other middle schools, delivering a formal pitch and handling a high-pressure Q&A session with judges. They covered everything from product development to financial planning with total confidence.

We are incredibly proud of the growth of our Virtual Enterprise program. Competing at this level for the first time is a massive milestone—we can’t wait to see what’s next!

Aloha and a huge THANK YOU to our incredible PTA for transforming our school into a tropical paradise for Staff Appreciation Day! 🌺🌴🍍

From the decorations to the delicious food and thoughtful touches, today was a reminder of how lucky we are to work in a community that truly values and supports its staff. The library looked more like Waikiki than a middle school for a few hours, and our team loved every minute of it.

One of the highlights of the day was learning authentic hula moves and island traditions from a professional hula dancer. Staff had an amazing time stepping out of their comfort zones, laughing together, and fully embracing the aloha spirit.

We are so grateful for the time, creativity, and generosity that went into making today so special. Our staff felt appreciated, celebrated, and genuinely cared for. That means everything.

Finley Middle School Students Celebrate Earth Day

Students in the Life Skills class at Finley Middle School recently explored the importance of Earth Day and the vital role we play in protecting our planet. Lessons focused on practical ways to keep the Earth clean, including litter prevention, recycling, and mindful environmental stewardship.

To celebrate their learning, the class planted a variety of perennials in the school courtyard. Because these plants return every spring, they serve as a perennial reminder of the school’s commitment to the environment.

"Watching these plants grow year after year will serve as a meaningful symbol of responsibility, growth, and respect for our environment," said Ms. Cain, the class teacher.
A special thank you goes to Mr. Medina for his hands-on assistance with the project, as well as to Ms. Cain and her teaching assistants for supporting the students throughout this educational journey.

Through initiatives like these, Finley Middle School continues to foster a culture of sustainability and civic pride, ensuring students grow alongside the world they work to protect.

Nothing like ending a Boston trip the right way.

Before heading home, our students had the opportunity to tour Fenway Park—one of the most iconic ballparks in the country and a place where history practically speaks for itself. From the Green Monster to the press box, our kids got a firsthand look at a piece of American tradition that’s been standing strong for over a century.

A great way to wrap up an unforgettable trip—learning, exploring, and making memories along the way.
