April is Autism and Neurodiversity Acceptance Month, and Connolly School came together to support and celebrate the differences that make each person unique.

Our K-Kids Club, led by Ms. Dora Ricciardi and Ms. Maureen Hellman, organized a walk-a-thon to raise money for the Nassau/Suffolk Autism Society of America. With the support of students, staff, and families, Connolly raised $878 for the organization.

At the end of the walk, participants gathered on the field and formed the shape of an infinity symbol, which represents neurodiversity. A drone photo was taken to capture this special moment.

Over the past few weeks, students participated in learning and celebratory activities to highlight neurodiversity. Student representatives explored common myths about autism and shared what they learned with their peers. Students also enjoyed a spirit week that celebrated the beautiful spectrum of qualities that make up Connolly’s neurodiverse community.

Autism acceptance is about more than awareness. It means including and supporting people of all abilities. Thank you to everyone who donated, participated, and helped make this event a success.

Last Thursday evening, Connolly School’s third-grade students performed their Spring Concert at Glen Cove High School, under the direction of Miss Courtney Sack. The theme of the concert was Colors, featuring songs including “True Colors,” “Red,” “Yellow Submarine,” and “Pink.” Students also played the recorder during one of the songs, and custom student artwork was included in the printed program.

Thank you to the administration, third-grade teachers, PTA, families, and friends for attending and supporting our students. We are proud of our third-grade performers.

Thank you as well to GCTV for filming the performance. We also appreciate Ms. Criblez and Mr. Iannelli for attending and speaking to students and families about next year’s band and orchestra program as they look ahead to fourth grade.

Congratulations to all of our young musicians. Happy Spring!

Our fourth graders had a great time at their publishing party, and their graphic novels are really something to behold!
