Today, June 19th, marks the 62nd anniversary of the line-of-duty death of Glen Burnie Volunteer Fire Company Firefighter Lawrence J. Corcoran.

Today, 27 years ago, while transporting a patient to South Baltimore General Hospital, Firefighter Lawrence J. Corcoran, lost control of the ambulance he was driving, the ambulance slid on wet pavement, crashed into a sign post, and fatally injured Firefighter Corcoran. Firefighter Lawrence J. Corcoran was 27 years old and had served 9 years.

Firefighter Corcoran served the Glen Burnie Volunteer Fire Company for 9 years, joining in 1955.

On June 14, 2026, Anne Arundel County 911 received multiple calls reporting a house fire in the Jessup area.

Engine 211 arrived on the scene to find fire showing from the garage and immediately requested the Working Fire Dispatch.

Rescue Squad 33, staffed by four career personnel, responded as part of the working fire assignment. Upon arrival, RS33 crews conducted the primary search of the residence, which was negative for occupants.

Due to the extreme temperatures experienced throughout the day, the Incident Commander requested two additional engine companies. Engine 332, staffed by three volunteer personnel, was dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival, E332 assisted with locating and extinguishing hotspots, conducting overhaul operations in the garage, and later worked alongside Anne Arundel County Fire Department Fire Investigation Bureau personnel.

Crews operated on scene for approximately three hours before returning to service.

We would like to thank all responding units for their teamwork and dedication during this incident, especially during the challenging weather conditions.

A member of our fire service family has suffered a devastating loss after a recent house fire in Huntingtown. An Assistant Chief with the Fort Detrick Fire Department and Past Chief of the Dunkirk Volunteer Fire Department lost everything, and the fire service community is coming together to help.

We are asking our members, neighbors, and supporters to consider donating clothing and other needed items to assist this family as they begin the difficult process of rebuilding.

🚒💰 BOOT DRIVE TODAY! 💰🚒

Today, members of the Glen Burnie Volunteer Fire Company will be hosting a boot drive at the intersection of Ritchie Highway and Aquahart Road from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM.

Our volunteer members proudly serve the community of Glen Burnie and the citizens of Anne Arundel County, responding to thousands of emergencies each year. Funds raised during this boot drive will help purchase new equipment and resources needed to continue providing the highest level of service to our community.

Every dollar makes a difference and directly supports the men and women who volunteer their time to protect and serve.
