Maryland Parent Connections

Maryland Parent Connections Parent Connections is an organization of parent mentors. Parent Connections is a project of The Parents’ Place of Maryland.

We are trained to offer non-biased support and resources to other parents of young or newly diagnosed children who are deaf or hard-of-hearing. Funding for this program comes in part from the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), Maternal and Child Health Bureau (MCHB), and Division for Children with Special Health Care Needs (DSCSHCN) through grant # H61MC00081 to the Office for Genetics and People with Special Health Care Needs.

We’ve been asking our members, “what ASL resources or programs would make the biggest difference for your family?” You answered, “we want to meet Deaf adults, ask them questions, and practice ASL with them.” We couldn’t agree more! Yesterday, we answered your request and launched a new program offering members a total of 2500 interactive online sessions with Deaf role models. That’s five sessions per household, 30-minutes per session, available on a first-come first-serve basis, for 500 ASDC members!

Family Early Literacy and American Sign
Language Workshop at WPSD!!

Saturday, January 12th - 10:00am - 12:00pm

Sheri Morgan, Reading Specialist, and Christie
Homell, ASL Specialist, will share ways to
encourage literacy and language at home with your
deaf or hard of hearing child. Workshops are
tailored to the needs of the families with a focus on
early literacy tips to use at home, American Sign
Language practice, group discussion and questions,
storytelling, and hands on activities for the
children.

The registration deadline has been extended to Friday, January 11. Please RSVP NOW to reserve your spot! This allows us ample time to tailor our workshop to the needs of our families and plan appropriate child centered activities. Although we would never turn any family away, your cooperation is greatly appreciated!

For more information or to RSVP for the workshop, please contact Sheri Morgan at [email protected] 412-371-7000 Ext. 460
