Mosquitoes' only joy is biting you and biting you and biting you, right?

Only if they’ve had their beauty rest!

Biologists at the University of Cincinnati in 2020 found that sleep-deprived mosquitoes are less likely to hunt for a bloodmeal—they’d rather just hide back under a leaf (Ajayi, O. M. et al.).

Seriously! If you flip leaves over during the summer you’re probably gonna wake up a skeeter or two.

That's right--mosquitoes do not have the ability to transmit HIV and COVID-19. They do transmit other diseases such as malaria and various arboviruses, like West Nile.

It’s winter, no need for a mosquito inspection!

Not so fast...

Anytime is a good time for a mosquito inspection! Winter months give us a unique opportunity to look for hidden locations mosquitoes can lay eggs in and around your yard. With the lack of heavy vegetation, it can be easier for inspectors to find low lying areas, hidden creeks and storm water inlets not easily seen in the spring and summer months. Henrico’s Mosquito Division offers FREE mosquito inspections all year round! We are willing to come back as many times as needed to identify your mosquito concerns.

Contact us today to schedule your pre-season inspection!

YES WAY!

Meet the Snow Pool mosquito, scientifically known as Aedes communis. These mosquitos are found in cold climates with higher elevations. Luckily for us, they are not present in Virginia.
These mosquito have mastered overwintering! The females will lay their eggs on ground that has the potential to flood. During snow melts, pools of water will capture these eggs. Afterwards, bacteria in the water triggers the eggs to hatch.

Pretty cool huh? (See what we did there??)
