“Astronauts Returning From Orbit”—Led by Mrs. Holly and Mrs. Amanda, rising 2nd graders in the Summer Scholars program at Gleason School built protective contraptions to protect their eggs. After watching videos of astronauts returning from space, groups worked together to model their contraptions based on what they had observed, attempting to add 2 parachutes and a protective casing around the egg. The eggs went through 3 rounds of testing at different heights. It was a fun experiment for all!
More than 50 students in grades PreK through 5th grade participated in the 2026 Summer Scholars program and enjoyed this exciting extended learning opportunity through June 16th. Thank you to all the students, teachers, and families who participated.
Throughout the program, our “summer scholars” were thrilled to learn with LOTS of fun, educational activities! For example, students enjoyed learning about moon phases with oreos and making mini pizzas. They engineered egg capsules and dropped them from the top bleacher hoping their eggs would survive. They also created PowerPoint presentations about weather. The group ended their time together with ice cream, bubbles, kickball, and water fun! 🤩
