Friends of the Mary Wood Weldon Memorial Library

Friends of the Mary Wood Weldon Memorial Library FOL is an all volunteer, 501(c) 3 organization whose mission is to support and promote the Library, All are welcome to attend.

The Friends of the Library meets monthly, at the library, on the second Thursday of the month at 10 am.

BOOK SALE RESULTS:

All proceeds from the sale, including donations, will go to Dolly Parton's Imagination Library to help deliver free books to preschoolers in Barren County. We were asked to donate $1500 again this year. We made $274.85 in book sales (that's 1100 books in the hands of children!) and $190.58 in donations for a total of $465.43! A generous community member, who wishes to remain anonymous, has offered to donate the balance so that we reach our goal of $1500! Thank you!

At our meeting today, the Friends treasurer , Kathy, presented a check for $5000 to Library Director Ami Sandell. Library staff will use the money for popular programs such as Homeschool Hangouts, Craft and Chat, and movie night! The library will also purchase a people counter, a display wall, a personalized table cloth and banner and summer reading prizes for next year! Thanks to all of you who volunteer, donate books and shop at our sales, for making this gift possible!

Congratulations to our super volunteer, Brenda Bush, (who doesn’t like to be photographed 😉), who was named the 2026 Outstanding Friend of Libraries by the Friends of Kentucky Libraries, Inc! Brenda is a dedicated volunteer who sorts books, helps at our book sales, and manages our page, among other duties. At the meeting today, we also recognized Joanne and John Fry, a dynamic duo of volunteers who sort books, and move and haul our books to our storage places. Many thanks to ALL of our excellent volunteers (seen below)! We couldn’t do this work without you! Won’t you join us???
