Ladder 24 Assists Bridgeport Fire Department!

On Monday evening September 7, 2026 the Bridgeport Fire Department along with their mutual aid companies were dispatched to the 1000 block of Dekalb Street for a building fire. Shortly after the dispatch police arrived on scene and found a commercial building on fire. Ladder 24 responded on the “Working Fire Dispatch” as the Rapid Intervention Team. Upon arrival, command requested Ladder 24 to take the front of the building and reassigned the crew to roof operations. The crew operated on the roof of the showroom portion of the car dealership and extinguished the fire that was spreading to a 2nd floor apartment.

Gladwyne Firefighters remained on scene assisting at the fire until just after 2000 hours, returned back to Gladwyne and restored the equipment for the next call.

While Ladder 24 and the crew was in Bridgeport, another crew was standing by in Gladwyne to handle any additional emergencies.

Gladwyne Firefighters Assist Bryn Mawr Firefighters!

At 1pm this afternoon, Gladwyne Firefighters were dispatched to assist Bryn Mawr Firefighters with a house fire in the Villanova section of Lower Merion Township. The original dispatch was for Station 23 (Bryn Mawr Fire Company), Station 24 (Gladwyne Volunteer Fire Company), Engine 25 (Merion Fire Company of Ardmore), Ladder 26 (Narberth Fire Company) and RIT 21 (Penn Wynne Fire Company - Station 21). While units were responding to the scene, Assistant 313 (Narberth Ambulance Assistant Chief Scanlon) arrived on scene and reported smoke showing from the eves of the house.

The Lower Merion working fire dispatch was transmitted adding Squad 22 (Belmont Hills Fire Company), Pipeline 28 (Union Fire Association) and Engine 55-1 Conshohocken Fire Company No. 2 as the additional RIT team).

The crew from Ladder 23 deployed a hand line to the basement of the house where the bulk of the fire was and Engine 24’s crew stretched a hose line to the first floor above the fire to stop any further fire spread.

First in crews quickly extinguished the fire and were successful in containing the fire to the basement and first floor directly above the fire in the basement. Extensive overhaul and ventilation was performed by the other units on scene.

Thank you to Lower Merion Police Department, Lower Merion Fire Department and Narberth Ambulance for assisting at the scene.

Thank you to Spring Mill Fire Company No.1 and Radnor Fire Company for standing by in our station to protect Gladwyne while we were busy in Villanova!

Good job by all of our Firefighters (Career and Volunteer) in Lower Merion, Narberth and our surrounding mutual aid companies that respond and assist us.

Late Night Car Fire!

Just after 2330 hours (11:30 pm) your Gladwyne Firefighters were dispatched to a car fire on Robin Road.

Upon arrival of Engine 24 the crew found a Jeep Compass well involved in fire with a 2nd car parked directly in front of it starting to catch fire from the extreme heat.

Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire limiting the damage to the 2nd vehicle.

Thank you to all of our Firefighters for dedicating themselves to helping others.

We are always looking for dedicated members of our community to join our firefighting family. If you are interested, stop in anytime to discuss being a volunteer!

Dog Stuck In A Tree?………Hold On A Minute!

Yes the fire service has been dealing with cats stuck in trees for many years now, but in Gladwyne we like to be unique.

This morning, Bentley who is a Golden Retriever that lives in our Village found himself stuck in a tree! The tree was amongst a large amount of heavy brush and somehow Bentley got himself in a precarious position and needed a little help from our Firefighters!

Thankfully, we were able to successfully “rescue” Bentley and get him back on the ground where he belongs.

There were no injuries to Bentley or any Firefighters in this incident.

Gladwyne Firefighters Respond to 2 Alarm House Fire On Americas 250th.

Late this afternoon Gladwyne firefighters were on stand by following a busy day. 5 firefighters in station responded to assist Bryn Mawr Fire Company and Radnor Fire Company a working house fire. The Engine crew would arrive to a large single family dwelling with fire extending in the rear two floors and the attic. Engine 24 secured a second water supply, assisted with fire attack, and vertical ventilation. The air truck responded and filled 16 SCBA cylinders. Due to the extreme heat, a second alarm was dispatched to assist at the scene.

Gladwyne firefighters have remained busy through this holiday heat, participating in the Garret hill 4th of July parade and handling multiple other emergencies.

Happy Independence Day from our family to yours….

Please enjoy the day safely, drink plenty of water, stay out of the extreme heat for extended periods of time.

And most importantly, please take a minute to think about our friend and brother Sean Demuynck who lost is life 5 years ago tonight when he died in the line of duty fighting a house fire in Penn Wynne.

Happy 4th of July!

2 years ago today, we brought our current Ladder 24 back to Gladwyne. We purchased this ladder truck from Mt. Penn Fire Department after our ladder truck caught fire and burned up during its annual aerial ladder testing.

A little birdie told us that our new Pierce TDA Ladder truck is hitting the production line next week with a September / October delivery date.

Thanks again to our Brothers and Sisters at Mt. Penn!
