Good evening Gladwin County—

The guys have had a long day, and for the most part, the road conditions improved greatly. All pavements have been run, and a good amount of the gravels as well. However, ice still persists and is even reforming after dark. The biggest concern right now is the amount of trees down and more coming down. The trees are loaded with ice, and with high winds anticipated, we know more are just waiting to come down. So the road conditions have improved, but the possibility that a tree is down, has increased. And in the dark, they are extremely hard to see until you are very close. PLEASE drive SLOWLY if you must be out!!!! We are working with emergency management, Consumers Power and the fire departments to keep everyone safe, but staying off the roads is the best thing you can do right now. We will update as we get more information. Thank you for your patience and support!

Good morning Gladwin County—

It’s hard to pick a place to start. The roads were covered just before sunrise in a new layer of ice. Trucks are out salting and doing their best, but it is slow going and very dangerous. Salted pavements will continue to improve, especially with the temperatures rising, but backroads are completely covered in ice. We are expecting rain and warmer temps, we hope this will help the cause but no matter what, it will be a messy morning on the roads. Ice covered limbs continue to break, causing trees and limbs on the roadway. We expect this to get worse as the winds increase. In other words, it’s a great day to stay home!

Good morning Gladwin County—

Trucks have been out since early this morning in an attempt to keep the roads passable during the storm. Drivers are reporting around 6” of snow, more or less in certain areas. Roads are snow covered, and more snow is still falling. Drivers will be focusing on the main routes this morning, until the snow stops and they can do a final cleanup. Drive slow if you must be out, be safe, and give the plows room to work.

Attention: MDOT correspondence below. If you have any questions please call 989 773-7756

I am writing to provide an update on upcoming MDOT culvert work within Gladwin County. We have a couple of lane/road closures remaining to wrap up the project:

M-61, 0.2 miles west of Bard Road: The culvert at this location will be removed and replaced via part-width construction utilizing lane closures. Traffic will be maintained in each direction via temporary traffic signals. The work at this location began yesterday (10/6). The lane closures with temporary signals will likely remain in place until the last week of October.

M-18, between Oberlin Road and Round Lake Road: The culvert at this location will be removed and replaced under a full road closure and detour. The detour route for this location is attached. This road closure is scheduled for approximately a two-week duration. The tentative start date for this closure is October 13th.

These two closures listed above will be the last two major closures related to this two-year project. Some miscellaneous shoulder closures and potentially some flagging sequences may be used over the next two months to take care of punch list items.
