Nester Township Fire Department hosted a Michigan Agriculture Accident Rescue Systems (MAARS) Rural Rescue Operations Level Course on April 12-13, 2025, engaging nearly 30 Firefighters and EMS professionals from across 6 counties.

The curriculum combined classroom instruction with hands-on exercises, emphasizing patient stabilization, safe rescue techniques, and efficient transport to definitive care. This training equipped participants with specialized skills to address agricultural emergencies, significantly enhancing regional preparedness to safeguard rural communities.

Funding for the course was provided by Michigan Rural EMS Network (MiREMS).

The event’s success was also greatly supported by generous community contributions. Nester Township Fire Department expresses deep appreciation to Lambert's Meat Market LLC (Gladwin, MI) and Subway (Gladwin, MI) for providing food services and donating meals, Keith Good Land Management (Gladwin, MI) and Terry Muma for preparing the training grounds, and McKimmy Ag Services (Gladwin, MI) for supplying essential training materials.

Flurry the Snowman says, “If you’re stranded, stand out!” Keep a flashlight, bright markers, and reflective triangles in your car as part of your emergency kit. If you’re stranded, place the reflective triangles around your vehicle and use the markers on your windows and antenna to make your car more visible.
