We were honored to attend Mid Michigan College’s first Coffee & Construction event and get a behind-the-scenes look at the exciting progress happening on campus.

Touring the new nursing and welding labs offered a clear picture of how these investments will serve students from Gladwin County and beyond. These programs are critical to building a strong, skilled workforce and ensuring our communities continue to grow and thrive.

At the Gladwin County Community Foundation, we believe in supporting opportunities that open doors for local students and strengthen the future of our region. It was inspiring to see that vision in action.

Thank you to Mid Michigan College for hosting such a meaningful event. We’re proud to be part of this work and excited to see what comes next.

Grant Impact Story

Through a recent grant from the Gladwin County Community Foundation, The Children’s Grief Center of the Great Lakes Bay Region is expanding its efforts to support young people experiencing grief in Gladwin County.

This investment not only helps the organization strengthen partnerships with local schools but also provides safe, supportive environments. Here, students process the loss of a loved one among peers who truly understand. As more families request grief support, programs like this ensure children and teens are not left to navigate grief alone.

“We’ve begun building meaningful partnerships with schools in Gladwin County, and requests for grief support continue to grow. Sustaining this work ensures that students who are grieving have a safe space at school to connect, share their experiences, and feel less alone in their grief,” said Chris Sabourin, Executive Director of The Children’s Grief Center of the Great Lakes Bay Region.

By supporting organizations like The Children’s Grief Center of the Great Lakes Bay Region, the Gladwin County Community Foundation continues to invest in the well-being of local youth and the strength of the entire community.

Today, Youth Action Council Advisor Martin Hodges is visiting both Beaverton High School and Gladwin High School for back-to-school orientations with teachers. Martin is sharing how the Gladwin County Youth Action Council and the Gladwin County Community Foundation work together to empower local youth, fund impactful projects, and strengthen our communities.

These conversations help teachers connect students with opportunities to learn about philanthropy, develop leadership skills, and take an active role in creating positive change in Gladwin County.

We are grateful for our educators’ support in helping inspire the next generation of community leaders.

The Gladwin County Community Foundation Board recently approved a $4,000 grant request from Girl Scouts Heart of Michigan. This grant request received support and funding from both the Gladwin County Community Foundation’s Grants Committee and the Gladwin County Youth Action Council. Grantmaking awards from the Gladwin County Community Foundation support charitable, educational, and leadership development programs that serve Gladwin County residents. Grants are made possible through contributions from generous community members who believe in investing in the future of our region. Your Community Foundation annually awards over $100,000 in scholarships and grants to support your community.

“We’re proud to partner with organizations that are helping shape our community’s future,” said Monica Wolfe, Board Chair of the Gladwin County Community Foundation. “This program supports youth development— a key component in building a stronger Gladwin County.”

$4,000 in support for Girl Scouts Heart of Michigan will provide financial assistance, program supplies, and direct services for girls participating in Girl Scouts in Gladwin County and through the SPARKS summer initiative. Girl Scouts Heart of Michigan staff will once again bring enriching programming to girls during the summer months through SPARKS. This work is made possible through community support and ensures that girls facing financial barriers still have access to meaningful, empowering Girl Scouting experiences.

Competitive grants are offered quarterly. Grants are open to all 501(c)(3) nonprofit agencies, public schools, and government entities servicing Gladwin County. The Gladwin County Community Foundation receives administrative support from the Midland Area Community Foundation. To inquire about donating, establishing a fund, or applying for a grant, contact the Community Foundation at (989) 839-9661 or [email protected].

It's scholarship time! Your Community Foundation has been working hard to get the word out about scholarships to support postsecondary success for Gladwin County residents.

There are dozens of scholarships to help deserving students (like you!) defray the cost of pursuing postsecondary education. Materials must be received for all by the established due date in order to qualify. Good luck!

Scholarship applications for the 2025-26 school are currently being accepted until January 31, 2025. Visit gladwinfoundation.org to learn more!

Our Gladwin County Youth Action Council (GLADYAC) has been making a huge impact with teacher mini grants. GLADYAC is a group of energetic youth from Gladwin County. Youth action councils are structured just like the community foundations with which they are associated. They have governing boards, and operations carried out by a number of committees. Students learn to be good stewards through making the tough decisions required in good grantmaking.
