Code Enforcement Officer
Job Description
Under the direction of the Code Enforcement Inspector, this position assists in protecting the health, safety, and quality of life of the community by enforcing applicable state laws and city ordinances. The role involves working directly with the public, responding to citizen concerns, and ensuring compliance through inspection, documentation, and follow-up.
Key Responsibilities
-Respond to and investigate citizen complaints in a timely and professional manner
-Enforce city ordinances and applicable state regulations
-Conduct visual inspections of properties for violations, including:
Litter and illegal dumping
Junk vehicles
Overgrown vegetation
Animal-related concerns
Other public health and safety violations
-Take appropriate action to ensure violations are corrected
-Maintain accurate records and prepare detailed reports and documentation
-Submit reports for court proceedings when required
-Communicate effectively and professionally with the public, co-workers, and supervisors
-Answer phones and assist citizens courteously, providing guidance and information
-Keep supervisor informed of progress, issues, and enforcement actions
-Maintain cleanliness and organization of assigned work areas
-Perform other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent
Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to remain calm and professional in stressful or confrontational situations
Ability to make ethical decisions in accordance with laws, policies, and regulations
Physical ability to perform outdoor inspections and meet job demands
Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of local, state, and federal laws and regulations
Familiarity with OSHA guidelines, public health standards, regulatory compliance, and reporting practices
Experience in code enforcement, inspections, or public service roles is a plus
Schedule & Work Setting
Full-time position (minimum 40 hours per week)
Monday – Friday
8-hour shifts
Work performed in office and outdoor environments
