As Chief of the Girard Fire Department, I would like to take a moment to express my sincere gratitude and appreciation to the men and women of our department.

Throughout this past weekend, September 11th through September 13th, members of the Girard Fire Department full-time, part-time, and our Volunteers those who also serve with other organizations took time out of their own schedules to honor and remember the lives lost on September 11, 2001.

They took time away from their families, their weekend, and their personal commitments to remember the firefighters, first responders, and innocent lives lost that day. They stood in remembrance of our fallen brothers and sisters and showed that even 25 years later, we have not forgotten, and we will never forget.

As your Fire Chief, I could not be more appreciative of the character, dedication, and professionalism you continue to demonstrate. Your willingness to honor those who came before us speaks volumes about who you are not only as firefighters, but as individuals.

From the bottom of my heart, thank you for representing the City of Girard and the Girard Fire Department with honor and respect.

I am proud to serve alongside each and every one of you.

Yesterday, two members of the Girard Firefighters Association had the opportunity to attend the 14th Annual Wheat State FOOLS training event and participate in live fire training presented through the LCC Fire School.

Our members continue to strive for excellence by furthering their education, sharpening their skills, and taking advantage of valuable hands-on training opportunities. This dedication to continued training helps ensure our firefighters are prepared to safely and effectively serve our community when called upon.

Thank you to Deputy Fire Chief Mark McAtee and Firefighter Lathe Murr for taking the time to attend this course, continue developing your skills, and represent the Girard Fire Department and the City of Girard with professionalism.

Great job, gentlemen, and thank you for your continued dedication to training and to our community!

Today, the Girard Firefighters Association, along with fellow public safety agencies, first responders, and community organizations, had the honor of participating in the annual Blessing of Our First Responders.

This special service has been a longstanding tradition here in Girard, bringing our community together to recognize, support, and pray for the men and women who dedicate themselves to serving and protecting others.

We are grateful to be part of today’s service and appreciate everyone who continues to support our first responders and their families.

Thank you for carrying on this meaningful Girard tradition, and may God bless all of our first responders and keep them safe as they serve our communities.

Today we would like to take the time to recognize Chief Turner for his trip to New York to honor the fallen on the 25th anniversary of 9/11. Chief Turner visited the 9/11 Memorial and Museum located at Ground Zero of the World Trade Center. It is truly an honor to have a representative from our community make it to pay tribute. It’s is a great representation that the Girard Fire Fighters will never forget. Thank you for representing our great community, Chief Turner.

Burn Ban in Effect — September 9

The burn ban remains in effect for the unincorporated areas of Crawford County and will continue until 8:30 AM tomorrow.

The Grassland Fire Danger Index is high today, with wind gusts up to 18 mph. These conditions can allow fires to spread quickly and become harder to control.

This burn ban remains in place for the safety of our communities and responders.

The burn ban remains in effect for the unincorporated areas of Crawford County and will continue until 8:30 AM tomorrow, when conditions will be reevaluated.

Unfortunately, we did not receive the rain needed to improve conditions. The Grassland Fire Danger Index is high today, and with the ongoing extreme heat and dry conditions, the burn ban will remain in place.

This burn ban is being issued for the safety of our communities and responders.

Burn Ban in Effect — September 5 through September 8

A burn ban is effective immediately for the unincorporated areas of Crawford County and will remain in place until 8:30 AM Tuesday, September 8.

While the Grassland Fire Danger Index is currently moderate, extreme heat and dry conditions can cause fires to burn more intensely and become harder to control. These conditions also place additional stress on firefighters and emergency responders working in already dangerous heat.

This burn ban is being issued for the safety of our communities and responders.
