At the May 28 regular meeting, the Board of Education recognized students, parent volunteers, and community partners for their contributions to the Gilroy Unified School District.
The top 5% for community service hours of graduating seniors from Christopher High, Gilroy High, and Mt. Madonna High Schools were recognized, and the top community service earner from each high school was presented with a perpetual plaque with their name on it to be displayed at their high school campus:
🤝Chioma Okeke, Christopher High School, 566 hours
🤝Anna Nguyen, Gilroy High School, 1,040 hours
🤝Sophia Daoud, Mt. Madonna High School, 715 hours
The 2026 Future Chefs finalists were also recognized by the Board of Education for their culinary skills and knowledge. In attendance were Charlotte Bankston, Shelly Bui, Delilah Khan and Matilda McQuaid. 👩🍳
Senior, Sophia Daoud, was recognized for her contributions to the Board as the Mt. Madonna High School Student Board Representative. ✨
Las Animas parents, Melissa Vasquez and Grace Hernandez, were recognized for their contribution to the GUSD Student Services Community Advisory Committee. 💙💙
And finally, the Student Services team recognized local business partners that provide employment and learning opportunities for students. We are grateful to Grocery Outlet, Los Cuates Restaurant, Gilroy Library, Applebee's and Goodwill for all that they do to help students succeed. ⭐⭐
