Santa Clara County Library District - SCCLD mourns the loss of former County Librarian Nancy Howe

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our former County Librarian, Nancy Howe.

Howe retired from the Santa Clara County Library District in 2020 after serving as the seventh County Librarian for eight years. Under her leadership and focus to provide sustained, excellent public library services, Nancy expanded service to 7 days a week at every location, removed all fees to use the library or open an account, and oversaw the renewal of a 20-year special tax measure ensuring a source of funding through 2033. She was an advocate for patron privacy and received the Zoia Horn Award for Intellectual Freedom from the California Library Association in 2018.

In her honor, the community room at the brand new Nest: Learning Center will be dedicated to Nancy.

Thank you Nancy, for your service and visionary leadership.
