Law Enforcement Disperses Underage Party in Upshur County

On June 7, 2026, law enforcement agencies received information regarding a large gathering taking place off Wren Road in Upshur County.

According to information obtained from social media, the event was being promoted to minors, and there were concerns that alcohol and illegal narcotics would be present. The gathering was being held on unauthorized private property that was not for public use. (Trespassing)

Upon arrival, law enforcement officers from the Upshur County Constable's Office Precinct One, Upshur County Sheriff's Office, Texas Game Wardens, and Gregg County Sheriff's Office located more than 60 juveniles at the scene. Officers discovered alcoholic beverages and identified several juveniles who appeared to be intoxicated.

Vehicle operators were administered Standardized Field Sobriety Tests (SFSTs) to determine their ability to safely operate a motor vehicle. Citations were issued for Minor in Consumption of Alcohol where applicable.

The majority of attendees were cooperative with law enforcement. The gathering was dispersed after alcoholic beverages were disposed of and attendees assisted with collecting trash from the area.

We appreciate the information shared on social media that helped bring this event to the attention of law enforcement. Early intervention helped prevent a situation that could have resulted in serious injury or tragedy due to poor decision-making and underage alcohol consumption.

Trespassing, public intoxication, destruction of property, and illegal drug use will not be tolerated in Upshur County. Law enforcement agencies remain committed to protecting the safety of our community and its youth.

This morning we lost Constable David Thompson, Upshur County, Precinct 4, to his battle with cancer. (Funeral Details Below)

David was an excellent partner that you could always depend on. He was a great friend, always there when you need him. Even those who he arrested loved him. He had a way with people that was genuine and unique. He will be greatly missed.

I ask you to keep his family in your prayers this week.

We will be mourning his loss and his service to each of us.

I am thankful for time we had together. Love you brother. We got it from here.

A great evening representing Upshur County at The Martin House Children's Advocacy Center Bags Boots & Bingo Fundraiser which also serves Upshur County.

Constable Barnett helped model boots and purses for charity along with others this evening.

This fund raiser raised over $100,000 that stays in East Texas to serve abused children.

I always enjoy sharing with The Citizens Police Academy each year how Your Upshur County Constable’s Serve you each day. It’s always great to see those that attend and learn what we do.

Today, I witnessed something that is difficult to put into words. The professionalism, courage, and precision demonstrated by the Longview Fire Department was nothing short of extraordinary.

These selfless firefighters climbed nearly 1,000 feet into the sky to safely rescue two victims who had crashed into an 1,100-foot tower. Their training, teamwork, and commitment to excellence were evident in every step of the operation.

I was on scene to assist, but I stood in complete admiration of this team. They prepared for a moment like this — and when the call came, they executed flawlessly.

Tonight, there are families who are beyond grateful, and I share that gratitude.
Outstanding job. Thank you for your dedication, your sacrifice, and your unwavering service to our community.
