Mystery Solved! See update below!

Do you know this Liberty Bell? We have a bit of a mystery on our hands! A replica Liberty Bell recently appeared in the courtyard of the courthouse, but we have no record of where it came from, who delivered it, or the story behind its arrival! While we love the patriotic spirit, we want to make sure it wasn't placed here temporarily or left behind by mistake.

UPDATE: Here is the backstory: The bell was originally featured on a parade float and was donated by a local church to Gillette Main Street, with the thought that it would be incorporated into the Fall downtown displays. However, the impressive scale of this piece made it hard to fit, so this pedestal in the Courthouse courtyard seemed like the perfect place!

The bell will be staying as a temporary guest. The community can also expect to see it in the Parade of Lights!

A big thank-you to Gillette Main Street's Beautification Committee and the donating church for keeping our patriotic community spirit ringing strong! This was a mystery that was fun to solve!

P.S. The caution tape is up because repairs to the pavers and steps are being completed!

The Commissioners approved the transfer of the buildings and the maintenance reserve investment accounts to the Gillette Community College District. Since this approval occurred after the fiscal year, the expenditure was not included in the original FY2025-2026 budget. Therefore, a budget amendment is necessary to reflect the transfer of these maintenance reserve funds to the Gillette Community College District. The budget hearing was announced in the Gillette News Record, and the public is invited to attend and provide comments. Public Service Announcement: A Public Safety Training Exercise is scheduled at the airport on Thursday, September 10th from 2:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. and on Friday, September 11th from 2:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. Expect a significant presence of law enforcement and emergency response personnel in the vicinity, along with "training in progress" signs displayed. We kindly request that the public refrain from entering the area during these hours unless you have airport-related business.

Campbell County Offices Closed for Labor Day

In observance of Labor Day, Campbell County government offices and facilities will be closed on Monday, September 7, 2026. Regular operations and business hours will resume on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, at 8:00 a.m.

Location: Little Powder River Road (Old Hwy 59)
US Hwy 14/16 intersection to Palomino Road intersection

Little Powder River Road will be closed from noon on Friday until Monday at noon from Highway 14/16 to Palomino Road. Traffic should utilize Highway 14/16 and Northern Drive to avoid the closure. Little Powder River Road from Palomino Road south to Gurley Avenue will remain open. Traffic for races should utilize Hannum Road.
