Correction: The image circulating uses "pulled from the rubble at ground zero," which isn't the exact claim. What Trump actually said, at a Sept. 8 event honoring 9/11 responders at the White House, was that he was near a building (One Liberty Plaza, formerly the U.S. Steel Building) that started creaking and was feared to be at risk of collapse, and that two firefighters grabbed him and carried him away from the area. It didn't collapse.
Fact-checkers note there's no evidence Trump or a large group of his employees took part in Ground Zero recovery efforts, and no independent account places him at the scene of this incident, but the "creaking building, carried by firefighters" story is one he's told in different versions for years.

Wanted to correct the record since accuracy matters more to us than a dunk. The real story still raises plenty of questions on its own.

Being poor should not mean childhood gets stripped of every little joy.

SNAP isn’t supposed to be a moral test where we decide which foods poor families are “allowed” to enjoy. Kids should not have to understand the difference between a birthday their parents can afford and one they can’t. Who agrees?

BREAKING: Donald Trump is facing backlash after telling a dramatic fake story about his supposed role at Ground Zero following the 9/11 attacks.

Speaking at a Tunnel to Towers event, Trump claimed he was working on a building in New York after the attacks when a nearby structure began “creaking.” Trump said two firefighters grabbed him under the arms, “literally lifted me up,” and began running with him to safety.

Trump's entire account was an absolutely insane lie. A total fantasy. Now, 9/11 families and others are outraged by Trump's stolen valor.

Trump has lied about his activities surrounding 9/11 before. In a television interview on the day of the attacks, Trump notably bragged how the destruction of the World Trade Center affected the ranking of his building at 40 Wall Street, claiming it was now the tallest building in downtown Manhattan.

Every time we point out Trump's connection to the Epstein files, we get comments like this. 🙄

But let's be real: women have been speaking out against Trump for DECADES. This isn't new. Long before the Epstein files, he had dozens of allegations of sexual misconduct against him and people knew. They knew, and they defended him. They knew, and they cheered for him anyway.

The same people who claim they want to "protect women and children" turn around and make excuses for a man with this track record. You can't have it both ways.

We believe women. We always have.

Hey Macoupin County Republicans maybe fact-check before you post next time?

This "Henry Ford invented the weekend" graphic has been circulating since at least 2015, and it's been rated partly false / mostly false by both PolitiFact and USA Today. It's not a hot take. It's just wrong, and it's been wrong for a decade.

Here's the actual timeline:

📌 **1867** Illinois passes an 8-hour workday law, nearly 60 years before Ford's "innovation."

📌 **1884** The Federation of Organized Trades and Labor Unions (a predecessor of the AFL-CIO) formally demands the 8-hour day for all workers.

📌 **1886** Workers nationwide strike and march for the 8-hour day.

📌 **1898** Miners in our own Macoupin County die at the Battle of Virden fighting for fair pay and conditions.

📌 **1922** Edsel Ford states the company believes a 40-hour week is workable, years before the "1926 miracle."

📌 **1926** Ford adopts the 5-day, 40-hour week. By his own account, this came from watching productivity data and from wanting to attract workers and cool down union organizing at his plants. It wasn't law. He could have reversed it any day he wanted.

📌 **1938** The Fair Labor Standards Act finally makes the 40-hour week a **guaranteed national right** after 70+ years of organizing, strikes, and political pressure from unions.

Ford gets credit for moving early. He does not get credit for a fight unions had already been waging for two generations before he showed up.

Why this matters: Unions aren't a relic. They're the reason we have weekends, overtime pay, workplace safety laws, child labor bans, and the right to bargain for fair wages at all, rights that don't enforce themselves and can be rolled back if we stop paying attention. Every one of those "innovations" corporations love to take credit for came after decades of workers organizing and refusing to accept less.

So happy Labor Day, Macoupin County. Ask a union member how they got their weekend. And maybe run the next meme through a fact-check before hitting post.

Happy Labor Day from Macoupin County Indivisible!

Labor Day didn't start as a cookout holiday, it started as a protest. In the late 1800s, American workers were putting in 12+ hour days, 6-7 days a week, often in unsafe conditions, including child laborers. Labor unions organized strikes and rallies demanding fair hours, safe workplaces, and decent pay. The first Labor Day parade was held in New York City on September 5, 1882. It became a federal holiday in 1894, signed into law just days after federal troops violently broke up the Pullman Strike, in part as an attempt to smooth things over with the labor movement.

And right here in Macoupin County, we don't have to look far for that history.

Mother Jones, one of the most famous labor organizers in American history, is buried in Mount Olive, at the Union Miners Cemetery, the first and only union cemetery in the United States. She asked to be laid to rest there alongside "her boys": the coal miners killed in the Battle of Virden on October 12, 1898, when a 15-minute gun battle left 13 dead during a fight for an eight-hour workday and fair pay. She wasn't there that day, but she spent her life organizing miners just like them, and she wanted to rest among them when she died.

That's our backyard. Our county isn't just a bystander to labor history, it's one of the places it actually happened.

Everything we now take for granted, the 8-hour workday, weekends, overtime pay, child labor laws, workplace safety standards, exists because workers organized and refused to back down.

Today, we celebrate the workers who keep our community running, and we recommit to the values that built the middle class in the first place: dignity, fair wages, and the right to organize.

Speaking up in a small town can come with a price. Chi Ebert Pelo knows that price.

In a small community, everybody knows everybody. And when you decide to stand up against racism, homophobia, injustice, and hate, suddenly everybody has an opinion about you, too.

Chi has never been afraid to speak up.

During COVID, she was a voice of reason when people desperately needed one. She stood loudly and unapologetically with the Black Lives Matter movement. She has challenged racism and homophobia and offered comfort and guidance to people who needed someone willing to say, this is not okay.

But there is another side to Chi's story.

She has survived some of the worst challenges a human being can face—and she's finally ready to talk about them.
