At approximately 8:50 this morning, Gilbertville Fire was dispatched to respond to a flammable fluid spill. Upon further investigation, it was determined that the substance was Sulfuric Acid, prompting Gilbertville Fire to request assistance from Waterloo Fire Hazmat.

We would like to extend our gratitude to Waterloo Fire Hazmat, Waterloo Fire Ambulance, Black Hawk County Sheriffโ€™s Office, Iowa State Patrol, and Black Hawk County Consolidated Communications Center for their assistance on this call. ๐Ÿš’๐Ÿš‘๐Ÿš“

This Saturday, our friends at La Porte City Fire & Rescue are hosting a pork loin supper at the Fire Station in La Porte.

La Porte City is one of our mutual aid departments with whom we collaborate multiple times a year. Notably, they serve alongside us as the ambulance service in Washburn and parts of our rural territory, including areas to the south, southeast, and southwest.

Fundraising is a vital component of volunteer departments, and we appreciate the support you provide. ๐Ÿš‘๐Ÿš’

On Saturday night at our fundraiser, La Porte City Fire Chief Jeff McFarland and Assistant Chief Mike Scheel presented Gilbertville Fire Chief Curt Bovy with a heartfelt award on behalf of La Porte City Fire & Rescue to Gilbertville Fire & Rescue, celebrating their unwavering support, remarkable dedication, and invaluable assistance.

Mutual aid among volunteer departments is the backbone of our communities, especially as volunteer numbers dwindle in the U.S., ensuring the necessary manpower and equipment are always available. The profound respect between departments is palpable on every scene, and it starts with extraordinary leaders. If you witness a scene with multiple departments working in harmony, you'll notice those in charge collaborating to devise the best plan, prioritizing the safety of all members.

Gilbertville Fire & Rescue is truly blessed to work alongside some of the finest fire departments who are always ready to lend a helping hand. Not only do we support each other on calls, but also at fundraising events, fostering a spirit of unity and cooperation.

Thank you, La Porte City Fire & Rescue, for this outstanding recognition and beautiful plaque. ๐Ÿš’

Last night, the Gilbertville Fire Department and Iowa Firefighters Association had the profound honor of paying tribute to one of our own members for an extraordinary 50 years of selfless service as a volunteer in the community and surrounding areas for the Gilbertville Fire Department.

We would like to extend our warmest congratulations to Orville Weber Jr, affectionately known as Jr, for your unwavering dedication and commitment to serving others since joining the department in September of 1975.

The golden axe, a symbol of your remarkable achievement, was purchased by the department and personalized with the help of others. We would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to Josh Weber with Weberโ€™s Custom Cabinets, Jrโ€™s nephew, for the exquisitely crafted mounting board, and to Katie Schmitz with Itโ€™s Personal by KTS, a spouse of one of our members and part of the fire family, for the beautiful engraving on the axe and plaque.

We would also like to extend our sincerest appreciation to Lonnie Newhall from the Iowa Firefighters Association for joining us last night and presenting Jr with a service award from the association in recognition of his remarkable years of service. ๐Ÿš’

Today is the day. We cordially invite you to join the Gilbertville Fire Department this afternoon and evening for our 10th Annual supper and fundraiser event.

The support that has made this day possible, as in previous years, has been remarkable. Not only have we received generous donations for our silent and live auctions and raffle, but the community's enthusiasm for the event itself has been outstanding. Support for volunteer fire departments is crucial in acquiring the necessary equipment to assist others in times of need, whether it be fires, accidents, or medical emergencies. Both our local community and surrounding communities have consistently demonstrated exceptional support, and we truly appreciate it.

Over the past couple of weeks, we have been showcasing our silent and live auction items, along with the generous donors who have made them possible. Please note that there are still a few items that have not been posted.

We thank the Dew Drop for serving as a drop-off location for raffle tickets and for having them available for people to buy.

๐ŸŽŸ๏ธRaffle tickets can still be purchased and/or dropped off at our event up until around 6:45 pm. The deadline of Friday was for those being dropped off at City Hall and Dew Drop. Sorry for any confusion this might have caused.

We would also like to extend our gratitude to those who have contributed to making our meal possible.

We appreciate the tableware donated by Fischels Farm, courtesy of Chris, Shelby, Kyler, and Kelsey.

The 10th Inning kindly donated the salad and dressing.

The Iowa Pork Producers Association donated the pork loin, which was expertly cooked by Pat Purdy.

We thank 4 Queens Dairy Cream for their generous donation of ice cream (Waterloo, Cedar Falls and Waverly)

Fareway for donating the buns

We also appreciate Courtney Ryan's efforts in coordinating the food and kitchen helpers.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who has contributed to making this day a success year after year. We value your support and look forward to seeing you all this evening ๐Ÿš’
