Fire pits are a great way to enjoy summer nights — but even small fires can become dangerous quickly if proper precautions aren’t taken. 🔥☀️

Wind, dry grass, nearby decks, and flying embers can all increase the risk of outdoor fires during the summer months.

Before lighting your next fire pit:
✔️ Keep it away from structures and landscaping
✔️ Never leave it unattended
✔️ Keep water or a hose nearby
✔️ Fully extinguish ashes before heading inside

A safe summer starts with smart fire safety habits. 🚒

When you see flashing lights or hear sirens, every second matters. A clear path allows emergency crews to reach someone in need as quickly and safely as possible.

🚨 DO:
→ Stay calm and check your surroundings.
→ Signal and safely pull to the right side of the road.
→ Come to a complete stop when it is safe to do so.
→ Wait until the emergency vehicle has fully passed before moving again.
→ Be extra cautious at intersections.

🚫 DON’T:
→ Stop in the middle of the road if you can safely move right.
→ Pull to the left or block an intersection.
→ Speed up to “beat” the emergency vehicle.
→ Follow closely behind an emergency vehicle.
→ Ignore lights and sirens.

A few seconds of awareness from drivers can make a major difference for someone waiting for help.

Help us keep our crews, our roads, and our community safe by sharing this reminder.

Grilling season is here 🔥 — and a few simple precautions can make all the difference.

Before you fire up the grill, take a moment to review these safety tips to help prevent fires and keep your family safe:
• Keep grills at least 10 feet from your home or deck
• Clean grease buildup to avoid flare-ups
• Never leave your grill unattended
• Check propane tanks and connections before lighting
• Keep children and pets at a safe distance

If a grill fire starts, act quickly — turn off the gas supply if it’s safe to do so and never use water on a grease fire.

Staying aware and prepared helps protect your home and those around you.

GRANT AWARDED 🚒

We are proud to announce that the Rutland Dundee Fire Protection District has been awarded $23,644.64 through the Illinois State Fire Marshal Small Equipment Grant Program.

This funding will allow our department to replace aging multiband portable radios, helping improve communication and coordination with neighboring emergency agencies during emergency incidents and responses. Reliable communication is critical to ensuring the safety of our firefighters, first responders, and the community we proudly serve.

We would like to thank the Illinois State Fire Marshal for their continued support of public safety agencies across Illinois.

🌸 Spring Projects = Safety First

As outdoor projects pick up this season, it’s important to make sure you’re using the right equipment—especially when it comes to extension cords.
Using indoor cords outside can lead to overheating, damage, and even fire hazards. Outdoor-rated cords are designed to handle moisture, temperature changes, and increased use.

A small switch can make a big difference in keeping your home and family safe this spring.🚒

We are incredibly grateful for the overwhelming generosity shown by our community. 💙

Thanks to the parishioners and school families of St. Catherine of Siena, St. Mary – Gilbert, and St. Mary – Huntley, this year’s Lenten Alms Collection was a beautiful success.

Because of your kindness, our first responders were honored to receive stuffed animals—small but meaningful gifts that bring comfort during difficult moments. 🧸

A special thank you to the Knights of Columbus Assembly for your support in helping make this possible.

Your generosity truly makes a difference in the lives of those we serve.
