Hollow Creek Tree Farm is hosting the SC Christmas Tree Association’s 2026 Summer Meeting at the end of this month.

HCTF is celebrating its 50th birthday this year and sharing what we’ve learned over that half century symbolizes what the SCCTA is all about; making each other better at what we do. It’s also good to let others know they’re not the only ones to make mistakes and I’ll have a lot of examples to prove it!

Most all of us SC tree farmers produce the same trees, but this video shows a few different ones HCTF is growing. Three of these in particular will likely join other farms’ rotations and of those, the “Hollow Creek” Redwood is the most exciting. Here’s hoping that one day in the next decade, South Carolinians will be choosing and cutting Redwoods from multiple farms to display in their homes for Christmas!

One in a million. (Well, one in 500 anyway.)

Shearing Virginia Pines is hard and often frustrating. And then BOOM. One of them will turn out like this. I would love to say it's all due to my 50 years of pruning experience, but there are many many MANY wonky looking trees in this field as well. Nope, it's all about genetics. And site location. (I would usually throw "rainfall" into that list, but we haven't had much of that this year. Pines are hardy!)
