Last week, the GHFMO Technical Rescue Team trained alongside Tacoma Fire Department's Technical Rescue Team during a joint trench rescue training.

The training focused on rescuing a victim from a trench collapse. Crews practiced responding to straight trench wall failures, which can create dangerous voids and unstable conditions within the trench. Using specialized shoring equipment, responders worked to stabilize the collapse area and create a safe environment for rescuers to reach and remove a victim.

These low-frequency, high-risk incidents require specialized equipment, technical expertise, and teamwork. Training with regional partners helps ensure responders are prepared when these complex emergencies occur.

A special thank you to Haven of Rest Funeral Home for digging the trench and allowing us to use their property for this valuable training opportunity.

Help us congratulate Larry Rucker and Bob Gandara on celebrating 20 years with Gig Harbor Fire & Medic One!

Over the years, Larry and Bob have served our District in a variety of roles. They began as volunteer firefighters, were later promoted to volunteer lieutenants, and following the COVID-19 pandemic joined our Logistics Division as part-time laborers, where they continue to support our crews and operations today.

Thank you, Larry and Bob, for two decades of dedication to our organization and the community we serve. Congratulations on this incredible milestone!

Gig Harbor Firefighters had a great time joining students at Purdy Elementary for their Egg Drop Contest.

Armed with parachutes, padding, and plenty of creativity, students put their designs to the test as eggs took the plunge from above. There were successful landings, a few cracked eggs, and lots of smiles along the way.

Thank you to Purdy Elementary for inviting us to participate. We love opportunities to connect with students and see learning come to life through fun, hands-on experiences.
