Such a great evening. Watching these students being honored and celebrated by their community as they step into their future was genuinely inspiring. So much talent, resilience, heart, and promise in one room. Grateful to everyone who helped make Students of Distinction possible — and especially to the families, educators, mentors, and community members who continue to show up for our young people.

The Greater Gig Harbor Foundation is honoring the 2026 Students of Distinction.

Before WA Gives comes to a close tonight, we simply want to say thank you.

Thank you to everyone who donated, volunteered, shared a post, encouraged a friend, or took a moment today to care about this community and the people who call it home.

This year alone, more than $130,000 was awarded in scholarships to local students and adults returning to school. EnviroCorps volunteers walked 56 miles of litter patrol routes helping care for our shared spaces. Curious by Nature School has now welcomed more than 3,000 students into hands-on outdoor learning rooted in curiosity and connection to the natural world.

And for more than 30 years, the Basket Brigade has helped provide nearly 38,000 Thanksgiving meals to local families, seniors, and military households throughout our region.

These things happen because people continue choosing to show up for one another.

This is what community looks like.

If you’ve been meaning to make a gift today, there’s still time to join us before WA Gives ends tonight:

Today felt like a good moment to share a few reminders of what community support actually looks like here at home.

In 2025, the Gig Harbor Senior Center welcomed nearly 10,000 visits through programs focused on connection, wellness, meals, movement, and community support — while also helping deliver nearly 10,000 pounds of food to low-income seniors through its partnership with Emergency Food Network.

Since 2003, the Lu Winsor Environmental Fund has invested more than $300,000 into local environmental education, habitat restoration, and stewardship efforts that help protect the shorelines, forests, and waterways that define our region.

And in 2025 alone, EnviroCorps volunteers walked 56 miles of local roadway litter patrols and removed more than 100 bags of litter from community spaces throughout our region.

These things happen because people continue choosing to care about the place they live and the people around them.

None of us can solve every challenge facing the world right now. But together, we can help create a community where seniors feel connected, students feel supported, families feel cared for, and the natural places around us are protected for future generations.

If you’d like to be part of today’s WA Gives campaign, there’s still time to help strengthen the community we all share:

🎉 Today is a big day for our community — it’s WA Gives, it’s Cinco de Mayo, and it’s the Greater Gig Harbor Foundation’s 20th birthday! 🎉

Like so many grassroots efforts, many of the efforts supported through the Foundation began around kitchen tables, in classrooms, out in the field, or with small groups of neighbors simply trying to help.

Today, we celebrate more than $24 million in community impact made possible by people who continue to show up for one another.

Here’s to 20 years of quiet, powerful impact — and to the next 20 years of building, bridging, and enriching this wonderful place we call home. 💙
