We were thrilled to cook pancakes for the participants at Race for a Soldier this morning! A little rain couldn’t dampen the energy—a record turnout kept us happily mixing, flipping, and serving.

Race For A Soldier is presented by the Permission To Start Dreaming Foundation to raise awareness of the challenges faced by our military service members, veterans and first responders living with the effects of Post Traumatic Stress and Traumatic Brain Injuries.

At our meeting this week, the speaker was Melanie Magnenat from KidVantage. In her presentation, she outlined all the ways KidVantage helps children and families in need. This week alone they had 680 orders and many weeks it’s closer to 800-900. Kiwanis has been involved with this organization since it opened its hub in Bremerton.

Melanie also presented two awards to the club for our work on the High Five Diaper Drive in May.

This fundraiser brings the fun—and the community spirit! Your support helps Kiwanis fire up the grills to flip pancakes, grill hot dogs and show up for local favorites like Maritime Gig, National Night Out, Race for a Soldier, Fishermen Feed the World, the Back2School Key Pen event, the Film Festival, and more. It also helps fund scholarships, provide support to Key Clubs at both high schools, care for the Skansie House garden, and keep great service projects growing all year long.

Register on the Kiwanis website at GigHarborKiwanis.org. The 10am session is sold out but there are a few spots left for the 12:00pm session and some for the 2:00pm session.

Gather your friends and join us for a fun-filled day of mini golf, prizes, raffle baskets, and a complimentary lunch — all in support of a great cause!

We're facing a national blood crisis! Next blood drive is Aug 17. Blood donations have fallen to a four-year summer low, pushing an already strained blood supply to a critical level. There is a dire need of donors to help patients counting on lifesaving blood for emergency surgeries, trauma care, cancer treatment, and other serious medical needs. Please consider donating blood! UPDATE: Kiwanis Cares for Kids committee members are helping over 235 children and teenagers start the school year feeling confident and cared for by shopping for new clothes in time for the Aug 15 Back2School event on the Key Pen. Each child or teen will receive a pair of pants, a T-shirt, a sweatshirt, and socks—chosen with their own style and color preferences in mind. We are over halfway done!
