An LCSO Patrol Deputy initiated a traffic stop on a white car for a traffic violation on N. Main St. in Giddings.

The driver failed to yield for the Deputy and proceeded northbound on N. US 77 at speeds in excess of 120 mph.

The vehicle pursuit came to a safe conclusion just south of FM 1624, where the driver was taken into custody without incident.

Thanks to Giddings PD and Lee County Constable Pct. 2 for responding to assist.

Due to the large volume of southbound traffic backing up on N. Main St. during peak school hours, the Giddings Police Department is requesting drivers’ assistance in alleviating the backup and keeping traffic flowing as smoothly as possible. During the hours listed below, we are requesting that southbound drivers on N. Main St. (Hwy 77) NOT attempt to make a left-hand turn onto East Independence. Stopping at this intersection to turn left is causing other southbound traffic to back up significantly. We are requesting that drivers needing to go eastbound on Independence continue south to Hwy 290 and make a left turn at that intersection.

PLEASE AVOID TURNING LEFT ONTO E. INDEPENDENCE during these hours:
• 7 am-8:30 am (morning drop off)
• 12 pm – 1pm (lunch)
• 3 pm – 4pm (afterschool pick up)
