We're sharing this as Elon's bear is moseying its way to being a Gibsonville bear. Should you come across it, please don't approach and let it continue on its travels.

In light of our recent vistor(s) here are some Bear Basics.

Wildlife suggests that if you see a bear before it notices you, don’t approach. Stand still, enjoy, then quietly move away.

If a bear sees you, back away slowly. Never run; running may trigger a
chase response. If a bear approaches, hold your ground, wave your arms and yell
“Hey Bear” until it leaves.

If a black bear makes contact with you, do NOT play dead; fight back aggressively.

***Update - The caboose will continue to be closed through the weekend as work is still in progress.***

Beginning Wednesday, June 10th, the Gibsonville Caboose will be closed. The old ramps/steps will be removed and new ones will be constructed. While the intent is to have everything completed and reopened by this weekend, delays are possible and will be posted if they do arise.

The closure will not impact the Link Transit stop directly beside the caboose.

Over the next few weeks, there will be periodic closures of railroad crossings in Gibsonville. Norfolk Southern and North Carolina Railroad are performing rail replacement from Greensboro to Hillsborough. The exact timing is unknown, but crews are beginning work in Greensboro in the next day or so and will work their way east. Detour signs will be in place to assist in rerouting.

Last night at our Board of Aldermen meeting, local photographer Cesar Molina shared a moment with our community as he gifted the Town a framed archival print of his photograph “Yesterday”—a striking image capturing our historic downtown, beautifully preserving a piece of Gibsonville’s story.

We’re honored that this work will have a permanent home at Town Hall. Thank you, Cesar, for sharing your talent and vision with us, and for this meaningful gift to the Town of Gibsonville. And thank you to Mayor Bryant Crisp for being part of the moment and supporting the arts in our community.

We’re excited to welcome four talented interns to the Town of Gibsonville this summer through the Campus Alamance Internship Program! 🌟

Campus Alamance connects Elon University students with local governments, nonprofits, and businesses to provide meaningful, hands-on experience while supporting our community.

📚 Lane Merrill, a Statistics and Data Analytics double major, and 📖 Kaylin Faille, a History and Political Science double major, will be working with the library, museum, and community members to help preserve Gibsonville’s history. Their projects include digitizing historic photos and print materials, recording interviews with longtime residents, and conducting research that helps tell the story of our town for future generations.

🎥 Lidia Briones, a Cinema and Television Arts major with minors in Gaming Design and Creative Writing, will be creating a police recruitment video highlighting both Gibsonville and our Police Department, along with several fire prevention educational videos for the Fire Department. She will also assist with recruitment and outreach materials for both departments.

📣 Marissa Fluno, a double major in Journalism and Public Policy, will be supporting the Town’s communications and marketing efforts by helping develop engaging content, promoting community events and initiatives, assisting with storytelling campaigns, and strengthening how we connect with residents, visitors, and local businesses across multiple platforms.

We’re grateful for this partnership with Elon University and look forward to the creativity, energy, and fresh ideas these students will bring to Gibsonville this summer. Welcome to the team! 💙
