Pine-Richland is a public school district that is located in the most northern portion of Allegheny County, PA, which served more than 4,600 students K-12. The district has seen its population double since the early nineties. As a result PRSD is noted for having first-rate facilities amid a strong academic reputation. The district covers 21 square miles. This region of Allegheny County is characterized by suburban/semi-rural development, both residential and some commercial. The district is framed by Route 8, a north south road running through the eastern part of the district and Route 79, which lies just west of the district boundaries. These roads create great access to this part of Allegheny County and are a major factor in the growth of the district. The growth of the district parallels the growth of our reputation for quality educational programs. As we grow, PR maintains a warm and caring environment with an excellent academic reputation. The district provides a future-focused approach to planning and operations, thanks to strong leadership by the board, administrative team, teachers and non-teaching staff coupled with strong participation from teachers, students and community members. Pine-Richland High School was represented at the Eradicate Hate Student Summit at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center on September 14 by students Kason Straub, Taylor Patterson, Cara Murray, Preet Saini, Aariona Strader, Resheen Gibson, and Zoe Furrow.  Dr. Hernandez, Mrs. Zacharias, Mrs. Bruno, and Ms. Shorr attended as staff participants.  Our team joined peers from across the region to engage in conversation and connect with community partners on how we can make our schools and communities a safer and hate free environment.  Our student leaders returned empowered with strategies and ideas to foster a safer, kinder, and more inclusive school community.

Please join us in welcoming Mason Pruhs to Pine-Richland High School as our new Computer Science teacher!

Mr. Pruhs previously taught math at Hampton. He earned a bachelor's degree in math and computer science and a master's in education, both from Penn State.

Outside the classroom, Mr. Pruhs is an avid skier, gamer, and Dungeons & Dragons enthusiast. He also enjoys spending time with his family, supporting the Pirates, and caring for his German Shepherd.

Pine-Richland School District and Mars Area School District are honoring the victims of the September 11 terrorist attacks with their annual memorial flag display. More than 30 Pine-Richland-Mars Air Force Junior ROTC cadets planted 2,977 miniature American flags outside of Mars Area High School yesterday afternoon, representing the lives lost on September 11, 2001. The flags will be on display through next week.

Reminder: Tune in tomorrow morning!

Ninth-graders Donovan DeHart and Carson Koch and junior Macie Wahl will see their faces featured in the bright lights of Times Square on Saturday, September 12, as part of the annual National Down Syndrome Society Times Square Video Presentation.

The image, originally taken last February during the Tim Tebow Foundation's "Night to Shine" worldwide prom event, will appear on two giant Jumbotron screens above Father Duffy Square in the heart of New York City. The photo of Donovan, Carson, and Macie was selected from more than 2,700 international entries.

The hour-long presentation features over 500 photographs of children, teens, and adults with Down syndrome from all 50 states and 12 countries. Designed to promote visibility, acceptance, and inclusion, the presentation officially kicks off the flagship New York City Buddy Walk in Central Park.

Tune into the livestream on the National Down Syndrome Society page on Saturday, September 12, between 8:30 am – 9:30 am to see Donovan, Carson, and Macie!

Please join us in welcoming Nick Vranesevic to Pine-Richland High School and Pine-Richland Middle School! Mr. Vranesevic is our new secondary strings teacher and comes to Pine-Richland from North Hills, where he taught orchestra for eight years. He also has taught orchestra at Plum Borough, Mt. Lebanon, and North Allegheny and has bachelor's and master's degrees in music education from Duquesne University.

Mr. Vranesevic loves spending time with his wife and two children, golfing, and playing music on the weekends throughout the country. He says he wanted to make the move to Pine-Richland for a chance to both grow professionally and to help grow the orchestra program. And perhaps, most important, his favorite color is green!
