Wednesday night (9/2) our R3 (Rural Rescue Response) team got together and dusted off some of our skills!

We refreshed on scene operations, cutting holes in actual bin panels, ropes and rigging with our tripod, and then used our panels and vac to test out strategies while working on a patient.

A BIG thank you to Central United Cooperative for letting us borrow some corn to play with, as well as supplying our bin panels and to AgRevival and R3 Rescue, LLC for using their facility.

Way to go Nate!

Imagine being buried to your chin in 20,000 bushels of grain with a foot caught in an auger. 🌾

With only four initial responders on scene, the Gibbon Fire & Rescue Department executed a successful grain bin rescue.

In this episode, Dan sits down with Fire Captain, farmer, and founder of R3 Rescue LLC, Nate Firle. Nate breaks down the tactics performed that saved a farmer’s life and how that single call inspired a movement to equip rural fire departments across the Corn Belt.

🚌 🛑 NEW 2026 MINNESOTA LAW – SCHOOL BUS SAFETY 🛑 🚌

With students heading back to school, motorists should be aware of an important change to Minnesota’s school bus safety law.

🔴 FLASHING RED LIGHTS = STOP

Under the new law, the flashing red lights alone require motorists to stop. You do NOT have to wait for the school bus stop arm to be fully extended.

When you see flashing red lights:
➡️ Stop at least 20 feet from the bus.
➡️ Remain stopped until the red lights stop flashing.
➡️ Do not wait for the stop arm, the red lights mean STOP.

🟡 FLASHING AMBER LIGHTS = WARNING

Amber lights mean the bus is preparing to stop and the red lights will soon activate. Slow down and prepare to stop.

⚠️ The biggest change: Previously, the law required the stop arm to be extended. Under the new 2026 law, flashing red lights alone require you to stop.

Where did the time go???

School will be starting soon... how about a back to school coloring activity with our very own Gibbon coloring pages!

AND yesterday was "national dog day" (Anna missed it.. next year we will have to see all the GFD pups!!) so let's celebrate with this GFD Dalmatian instead. 😉

Our pets are like family, they should be safe in the event of a fire too!

Be sure to include your pets in your family emergency exit plans, have an emergency kit for yourselves but also for your pets, place a pet alert sticker on your doors so we know there may be pets in the home in the event of an emergency.
