Yesterday, Holocaust Education Resource Organization of Buffalo Director Lauren Bloomberg had the opportunity to join News 4 WIVB Buffalo in conversation about her exciting appointment to New York State's Holocaust Memorial Advisory Commission. One of 19 selected leaders, Lauren will help shape a permanent Holocaust memorial in Albany. Through her work at the Federation, Lauren has strengthened Holocaust education across Western New York, working closely with survivors, supporting educators, and bringing powerful learning experiences into schools.

Congratulations are in order for Holocaust Education Resource Organization of Buffalo Director Lauren Bloomberg, who, today, was publicly named to Governor Kathy Hochul's Advisory Commission on establishing a New York State Holocaust Memorial. Mazel tov to the Amherst Chamber of Commerce for another successful night celebrating business excellence in Western New York as well as Chamber's milestone of reaching and representing more than 100 zip codes. We also congratulate the businesses and people of distinction in our community who were recognized on Monday night. Federation is a Chamber member, and Miriam, Erica, and Jill were proud to represent us at "The Event!"

Eight years ago today, 11 people were killed and six people were wounded during Shabbat services at the Tree of Life building in Pittsburgh. It remains the deadliest attack on Jews in U.S. history.

The massacre fundamentally changed how many Jewish communities, as well as other U.S. faith communities, think about safety, religious life and their place in American society. Antisemitism can have violent real-world consequences. Jews deserve to gather joyfully and worship peacefully. Buffalo Jewish Federation remembers.🕯

Did you know Jewish tradition teaches that seeking wisdom is itself a sacred act? For generations, women have shared advice with one another about hormones, menopause and aging. On Monday, 45 women were able to come together to learn about these topics, which are often filled with confusion and misconceptions, rooted in science. Buffalo Jewish Federation thanks Erie County Health Commissioner Dr. Gale Burstein and renowned physician Dr. Sarah Berga for leading this important conversation! The Buffalo Jewish Federation and the Jewish community were proud to support GLYS Western New York, Inc. at its 43rd annual GAYLA last night, where the organization announced the exciting purchase of a downtown building, which will become a community center for the LGBTQ+ community. Mazel Tov!

This past weekend, several Federation staff members and volunteer leaders were proud to support the Jewish Museum of Buffalo by attending "An Evening with Wolf Blitzer" and celebrating the Museum and its geneaology center's public opening. We wish the Museum staff a hearty mazel tov.

The event also launched the opening of the Museum's "Jews in the News" exhibit. This exhibit largely reflects on the life and career of legendary Jewish news anchor Irv Weinstein, but it also highlights a few other Jewish broadcasters who have worked in Buffalo, including Federation's own Erica Brecher!

We are proud to support the Jewish community organizations that make Western New York richer.
