When Judge Christy Simpson administered my oath of office in January 2018, which began my term of service on Gettysburg Borough Council from the Third Ward, I never expected to be announcing my resignation in the middle of my term. I love Gettysburg (and particularly the Third Ward), a community that has welcomed me and my family with a kindness that convinced us that we had found our home.
I have enjoyed every day of my short time on this Council, serving alongside elected officials and staff who, to the person, care deeply about Gettysburg and who are devoted to listening to resident concerns and to crafting good policy. I leave now because after many months of searching, my wife and I have purchased a home in the Second Ward that fits our family perfectly; Borough Code requires that I step down if I am no longer living in the Ward that elected me.
With a heavy heart, I announced my resignation, effective July 15, at Monday's Borough Council Workshop.
I will still hold my Office Hours on Tues June 25 and Tues July 2 from 11 to 12 at the Library. I will forward all the comments and questions I receive to the entire Council (so please do stop by), and have complete confidence that Council will appoint an excellent replacement for my seat (perhaps you want to volunteer?).
I will also remain on the Planning Commission, and look forward to supporting the good work that we do together in this Borough.
Thank you to the residents of the Third Ward, to all Gettysburg residents who called me to express a concern, ask a question, or give advice, and who make me proud to say "I live in Gettysburg." Let's keep working together.
Charles Strauss is resigning from the Gettysburg Borough Council effective July 15 citing a move from Ward 3.
