It's beginning to get cold!

We will begin doing intakes on November 16th. Intakes will be by appointment only. Please call the Resource Center to schedule 717-334-4195.

The first overnight will be November 30th. Gettysburg C.A.R.E.S. will look a little different this year. We will be having individuals stay in a motel setting rather than traveling to churches.

How can you help? We are really in need of masks, hand sanitizer, gloves, and cleaning supplies. We will update a more extensive list of donations needed as we get closer to helping guests at the end of the month. Information on when/how to drop off will be posted soon. (We are not accepting clothing or blankets at this time.)

Monetary donations are helpful to help those who are homeless in our community stay warm! To donate monetarily, the mailing address for donations is P.O. Box 3814, Gettysburg PA 17325.

Thank you for your support of Gettysburg C.A.R.E.S.!

Gettysburg CARES is currently closed and we are looking forward to opening soon for the 2020-2021 season. The COVID 19 health crisis has given us reason to re-evaluate how we have provided cold weather shelter and we are examining how we will best be able to serve the homeless in this new season. Our best estimate at this time is that we will be ready for new intakes beginning November 2. We hope to be able to share more information with you soon.

C.A.R.E.S. has made the decision to close early this season to protect the health of the guests, staff, and volunteers. The few guests that were still utilizing the shelter have been placed in a temporary hotel stay while the staff continue to work with them to transition into the next housing option for them. We sincerely thank every person that has helped by donating financially, donating supplies, volunteering their time, and sending positive thoughts and prayers our way while we helped those who are homeless in our community. We have such a great community. THANK YOU ❤ We plan to open the shelter again Mid-October and will post an opening date at the end of the summer.

Our community has tremendously helped us and we are COMPLETELY stocked on many essential items. We are not in need of any donations at this time. We are trying to limit visitors to the Resource Center to do our part. If you have something to drop off, please call the Resource Center for someone to meet you at the door. Any questions, please call the Resource Center. 717-334-4195

Thank you for your help to help those who are homeless in our community. We appreciate all the help.

We have about a 1.5 months until the shelter closes for the season, so we're working with the guests to get them into permanent housing. We have two individuals that just got their own apartment and are in desperate need of a washer and dryer since they are limited with transportation to get to a laundromat. Does anyone have an extra washer or dryer (electric) they'd like to bless them with?

Can you help us?
The individuals in the shelter depend on volunteers to cook breakfast and then go to the Soup Kitchen for lunch. If it were to get to a point where guests of the shelter would need access to food within the shelter for all their meals within the day, we need to make sure we are prepared. There are currently 15 people who are homeless and needing support.

Things that would be helpful: ready to to meals such as Hormel, granola bars, pop tarts, mac and cheese cups, mashed potato cups, single packs of tuna/crackers, etc.

Thank you for helping us to be as equipped as possible to help support those who are homeless in our community.

Things that would greatly benefit the shelter right now: bottled water, paper towels, and non perishable food items (pop tarts, crackers, cans of chunky soups, ready serve meals like Hormel or mac and cheese cups, etc).

We have many people in the shelter and if things start to shut down, we need to be able to have supplies to still support those who are homeless in our community. Thank you for your support! Can you share this post to help us out?

We're doing our best to keep the shelter clean, but we could use some help with getting household cleaners. We use A LOT of anti-bacterial wipes and household cleaners that are in spray bottles. Everything can be dropped off at 117 York Street in Gettysburg. You can use that address too if you're ordering from Amazon.

Bittersweet announcement today! For the past 2 seasons, I've had the role of being Program Director here at the shelter. I've resigned from my position to move into a year round position. It has been a pleasure working with the individuals of the shelter, each volunteer/donor, and all the people who I've met along the way. I will continue to post needs for the shelter here on this page, so stay tuned! Current staff will be covering my shifts until the end of the season, so please be patient and understanding through the transition!
Thank you to all of you who invest in different ways in the shelter ❤️

While you're out shopping, could you pick up some laundry detergent and toilet paper for the shelter? We're running extremely low on both of these items! We appreciate the support of the community to keep the shelter running smoothly!
