Thank you PA State Rep. Dan Moul for your efforts advocating for Adams County fruit growers and all of Pennsylvania Agriculture. Our farmers are resilient, dedicated, and a major contributor to our local economy and communities. Please continue to shop the local fruit stands, markets and small businesses.

This week, U.S. Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins signed a federal disaster declaration for Adams and 16 other Pennsylvania counties due to the April 19-21 freeze. In doing so, she also announced federal assistance to help farmers who suffered damage and crop losses. Fruit farmers here in Adams County were particularly hard hit by the freeze. Now they will have access to emergency loans and other assistance to help them recover. I recently visited El Vista, a 600-acre fruit farm in Fairfield where owner Dave Benner shared how the recent freeze has affected his orchards.

This morning, the Adams Economic Alliance joined PA State Rep. Dan Moul, PA State Rep. Catherine Wallen, and Pennsylvania Agriculture Secretary Russell Redding for the Farmer Breakfast.

The discussion focused on the devastating frost event that has caused severe damage to Pennsylvania’s fruit crop. While the full extent of the damage is still being assessed, one thing was clear: our growers, elected officials, Penn State Extension, and nonprofit community partners are united in supporting Pennsylvania’s fruit industry through this unprecedented challenge impacting growers across the East Coast.

Now more than ever, our growers need our support.
