I'll be joining Healthy Adams County, Collaborating for Youth and other community partners at the Majestic Theater for a special screening of a film about the power of kindness — free and open to all!

Kindness to me is about giving people the benefit of the doubt, not making assumptions about people's intentions, listening to hear rather than respond, and being present to all the possibilities.

🥫 In honor of Hunger Action Month, we encourage all attendees to bring a non-perishable food item to donate.

And that's not all! Mark your calendars for Kindness Week, November 8–14, 2026. We're inviting all residents to help us celebrate and promote kindness throughout our community. Have an idea for an event, project, or way to highlight the good deeds and kindness of a neighbor or community member?

🎬 Lights, Camera, Inclusion! 🎬

Join me and others in our community for the 1st Annual Disability Film Festival, presented by The Arc of York and Adams County!

🕑 2:00 PM – 3:30 PM
📍 Gateway Theater, Gettysburg

This inspiring and community-centered event will bring together individuals with disabilities, families, advocates, community leaders, and local businesses for an afternoon that celebrates storytelling, inclusion, and the power of film to break barriers.

Featuring 4 short films. The goal of the event is to increase awareness, promote inclusion and representation, foster community dialogue, celebrate the talents, contributions and stories of individuals with disabilities, and strengthen partnerships between organizations, advocates, businesses, and the community.

September is Hunger Action Month

Did you know that 12,130 folks in our community are food insecure?

Nearly 1 in 5 Adams County residents skip or reduce their daily meal intake due to cost.

All residents, regardless or income should have the ability to access affordable and culturally relevant food.

I encourage all residents to raise awareness about food insecurity in our community, to support local food pantries and anti-hunger programs, and to volunteer, donate, and advocate for easier access to fresh nutritious food for all in our community.

There are lots of ways to contribute. Check out the monthly calendar of ideas from the Adams County Food Policy Council, donate to the SCCAP pantry or the Gettysburg Community Soup Kitchen, gather a bag for Ruth's Harvest, or volunteer with the Central PA Food Bank's Military Share Program which distributes food on the 4th Tuesday of the month to veterans at the Rec Park.

International Overdose Awareness Day is Monday, August 31

Join together in community to walk and remember those lost to overdose.

The walk begins at the Adams County Courthouse at 6 pm and proceeds towards the Rec Park.

Addiction affects not just individuals, but families, neighbors, and communities. This walk also aims to reduce addiction stigma, and connect the community with local support resources.

🎉 250 YEARS OF HISTORY, HAPPY BIRTHDAY DOBBIN HOUSE 🎉

Built in 1776. Still standing in 2026. The Dobbin House — Gettysburg's oldest standing building — has served witness to its own history and humanity, but also important moments in our community.

The evolution of this property from a home and school to a colonial tavern has given guests an accessible entry-point to stepping back in history. Neighbors have had dates here, families celebrated anniversaries and graduations, out-of-town guests come to experience this historic landmark. That's the real story of this milestone: not just a building's age, but a community that has kept it alive for two and a half centuries.

Thank you to everyone who has worked to preserve this landmark and congratulations on 250 remarkable years!

September is Su***de Prevention Awareness Month 💜🩵

Today at the Adams County Farmers Market, I issued a proclamation declaring September as Su***de Prevention Awareness Month in Gettysburg.

Thanks to Healthy Adams County who has partnered with other local groups to bring awareness to su***de prevention and to share resources during Community Health Discovery Day and throughout the month.

Join me at the Adams County Arts Council for a Mental Health Exhibit organized by Brittinay Smith on September 12 from 2-5 pm.

If you're struggling, you are not alone, and you matter more than you know. If you're worried about someone, trust your gut and reach out to them directly. A simple, honest conversation can be the first step toward getting support.

We all have a responsibility to each other to strengthen our connections and to build communities where there is no stigma in asking for help.

🎓 Welcome, Class of 2030! 🧡🔵

It was so meaningful to participate in Gettysburg College's First Year Walk with the Class of 2030. I was honored to present class representative Alessandro Araujo with a Key to Gettysburg.

Many thanks to our police department, college public safety office, college staff, community members and everyone who made this event possible.

You're not just starting your college journey — you're becoming part of the fabric of this historic town. Welcome — not just to campus, but to this community. Get involved. Venture beyond campus. Get to know your neighbors. Give something back. And when the time comes to graduate, I hope you leave here not just with a degree, but with a real sense that you were part of the larger community.

Gettysburg has been shaping leaders, thinkers, and changemakers for generations, and we're so glad you chose to call this place home for the next four years. Explore our downtown, get to know your neighbors, and don't be a stranger — this town is yours too now.

🍎 Welcome Back to a New School Year! 🍎

I want to take a moment, on behalf of the entire Gettysburg community, to thank the people who make our schools such a special place.

👩‍🏫To our TEACHERS: thank you for your dedication, your patience, and the passion you bring to shaping the next generation of Gettysburg residents.

🏫To our STAFF: thank you for everything you do behind the scenes to keep our schools running smoothly, day in and day out.

🔧To our MAINTENANCE TEAMS: thank you for keeping our buildings safe, clean, and welcoming for every student who walks through the door.

🚸 To our CROSSING GUARDS: thank you for standing watch, rain or shine, to keep our children safe on their way to and from school.

I'm also proud to share that this week we officially swore in three new crossing guards to serve our community in the Gettysburg Area School District: Matthew Miller, Donna Groft, and Robert Kraft. Please join me in welcoming them and thanking them. Like many, they wear multiple hats and we appreciate all that they do.

It takes a whole community to support our schools. Here's to a fantastic school year ahead. 💛

Excited to learn more about the Care on the Square Event slated for October 24.

Several Brothers had the privilege of welcoming Alison Lintal - Mayor of Gettysburg to the Lodge today for a productive discussion about several upcoming community events and initiatives, including Care on the Square, our homelessness awareness event, and this year’s New Year’s Eve celebration.
